Hi Justleenpernia. In Exodus chapter 16, we read of God's provision of Manna & Quails to the children of Israel. When the manna first fell onto the ground, they said, It is Manna (v15). The Hebrew word for Manna is 'man-hu', or 'what (is) it?' So it wasn't called Manna as a name given for this heavenly food, rather it was their question about this mysterious substance and that question (what is it?) then became its name.
Then in verse 31, we read, "And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey"; so it was referred to as Manna from that time & eaten for the next forty years.
Then in verse 31, we read, "And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey"; so it was referred to as Manna from that time & eaten for the next forty years.
