What does it mean to "be strong in grace"
  • Chris - In Reply - 3 years ago
Hi Robin. I assume that you're referring to 2 Timothy 2:1, "Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus."

If that is your reference, we read that the Apostle Paul is encouraging young Timothy to be spiritually strong as a Church leader, finding strength because of the Grace that comes from Christ Jesus. So this wasn't a human generated ability to withstand the forces that come against him, but of the Grace (or, special blessing, enabling) from above. To war in the spiritual realm requires a spiritual preparedness & spiritual empowering. And in Christ Jesus, Timothy would know this enabling & to endure ( 2 Timothy 2:3-5). Timothy would face all types of situations as a leader, conflicts within & without - only spiritual strength through Christ will enable to confront them & deal wisely.

I wondered about this because the subject of grace seems to be getting a little skewed in these modern days. Your answer rings true... the grace of Jesus, (blessing, enabling) comimg from Jesus... and not anything else. I was having a hard time explaining it clearly. Thank you, Chris.
