Our pastor states at every funeral that when we die we are instantly in Heaven if we are saved. I can not find this in the Bible. My Bible reads that the dead are sleeping and will raise again when Jesus comes back for his own. Where can I find that we are instantly in Heaven when we draw our last breath.
The physical body is here until the rapture (after death). The Spirit of the born again are with Christ. I'm not sure why some seek to complication this simple Biblical truth.
You will not find it in the Word of God, because at the last trump sound, the dead in Christ shall rise first. Now if Christians went to heaven when they die then it would not be any to "RISE". Another little point: why would God take you on to heaven just to pull you back out again on judgement day? The KJV states that everyone will be judged according to their works whether good or bad. Always take the Word of God over any man or women out here. If it's not in his Word, then it's not true! You have a blessed day.
I agree with your pastor. At the point of our physical death (And by the way, the word death means separation), but at the point of physical death, our physical body will be buried in the ground and will await the resurrection, and that's when our spirit will reunite with our risen body that has been changed from a corruptible body to an incorruptible glorified body.
Again, the word death means separation. When we die (physically), our spirit will depart our body to go to be immediately with the Lord. The word sleep or sleeping in the bible refers to physical death (See the story of Lazarus). When our body dies and is lying in the grave, and if you ever been to a funeral viewing, the dead body that is lying in the coffin looks like it is sleeping. But the spirit of that person is very much alive.
Ask yourself, where is their spirit? If their spirit has separated their body, where did their spirit go. If that person has the Spirit of Christ in them, where is Christ's Spirit right now? Definitely not in the grave!
Again, I believe your pastor is correct in his teaching about this part. I cannot speak to everything else he teaches, as I do not know your pastor. However, if you believe you are being misled by your pastor, or that he is spreading false teaching, I would encourage you to seek another church.
And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
Acts 8:2
And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
Luke 23:46
And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my SPIRIT: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
Mishael: these are other scriptures that show awareness of the spirit in Jesus, and those that are born again.
The fleshly body Sleeps, wherever it fell dead, or was buried. The born again to heaven someday.
The unsaved, wicked dead to judgement one day.
When you Google this, be sure you are not on a Catholic doctrine website. The King James Bible which was canonized is the standard for being born again. See the Book of John. I write this in love and concern for all of Gods people.
I'm sure there's been many others in the past too if you do an advanced search for it.
The Bible says when we die we will enter a state to await Jesus's return then will face judgment all together. It's called judgment day. Matthew 12:36, Hebrews 9:27. There's no verse saying you get to skip this, and nothing saying you go to heaven then go back to earth into your body, only to go back to judgment after you've already been in heaven.
Daniel 12:2
Job 14:12
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
1 Corinthians 15:18-20
Matthew 9:24
Those who believe in instant heaven involves misinterpreting 2 key verses: 1. Misquoting Paul when he said he'd "rather" be in heaven (those sleeping in the grave haven't necessarily departed from their old bodies yet anyway), 2. Thief on cross when Jesus said that day he'd be in "paradise". Most ignore all the other verses above saying we will await Jesus's return, then have a day of judgment. God bless.
