Does anyone know where Jesus went during his 3 days before he rose again.????

He was dead - in the tomb - when all mankind goes at death. Dead having no conscious thought and awaiting their resurrection at the return of Christ

Dear bob, Scripture seems to indicate that Jesus would be three days in the belly of the earth, perhaps to indicate the grave. One thing to mention, unlike any other person who dies, Jesus' body did not see decay or any effects of deterioration while in the grave.

    Hey Debbie B.

There may be several opinions on this, but does the bible tell us where He was? Jesus said He would be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, Matthew 12:40. And He said He would be killed, and after three days rise again, Mark 8:31. One theory starts with 1 Peter 3:18-22. Looking at the context of the chapter it is about doing good and refraining from evil and it is good to suffer for righteousness to have a clean conscience.

If we look at these verses Jesus was put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit. Jesus was raised from the dead in a glorified body and the same Spirit of Him that raised Jesus will raise those who have Christ in them Romans 8:10-11.

Jesus went and preached to spirits in prison who were disobedient in the days of Noah. As far as I know nowhere in scripture is man or saints called spirits, or the dead be in prison, I may be wrong. Why would Jesus only be preaching to those before the flood? The only ones I know that scripture says are in prison in chains of darkness are the angels who left their first estate 2 Peter 2:4 Jude 1:6. In the verses, there is nothing to indicate a time frame in which Jesus did this.

My understanding is Jesus was in the grave/tomb until His Father raised Him on the day of the Feast of First Fruits on the first day of the week before the sun came up. There is more scripture like Ephesians 4:8-10 that you can study for your understanding, keep in context of the entire chapter with an open mind and led by the Holy Spirit.

    God bless,

Hi Debbie B. I believe that 1 Peter 3:18-22 answers your question,

1 Peter 3:18-22 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Some believe that while Jesus' body was in the tomb, His spirit was in hell.Scripture doesn't support that position when it is taken in context and we look at the meaning of the word "hell." In the Old Testament, the place of the dead or the place of departed souls was called "SHEOL." It was to this place that all souls of the dead went to await resurrection.

In the New Testament, we find the story of Lazarus and the rich man who both died and went to Hades ( Luke 16:19-31). The KJV translates the Greek word "HADES" as hell but most other translations use the Greek word. HADES had two separated parts: Those who died in faith believing in God's promise waited for the resurrection in Abraham's Bosom. Those who died spiritually separated from God wait in torment for the resurrection unto death, eternal separation from God. The rich man was on the torment side and Lazarus was in ABRAHAMS BOSOM which was called "PARADISE" by the LORD Jesus Christ himself when He addressed the thief who found faith the day Jesus was crucified ( Luke 23:42-43)

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment ( 2 Peter 2:4). The word translated "HELL" here is not the Greek word "HADES" but is the Greek word "TARTARUS" meaning ABYSS or the lowest regions. This could very well be the gulf that was fixed between the PLACE OF TORMENT and Abraham's Bosom ( Luke 16:26).

Wherefore He saith, When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that He ascended, what is it but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that He might fulfill all things( Ephesians 4:8-10). Leading captivity captive seems to refer to Jesus taking all those that waited in PARADISE to heaven to be with Him. The descending into the "lower parts" then refers to Jesus mission of declaring Victory

Debbie, Christ was DEAD, laying in the grave awaiting HIS resurrection by HIS Father. Christ is the BODY of HIS FATHER.

Christ has from the beginning been the BODY of the Father, and all the glory that implies.

He laid down all his glory, and became (sinful) flesh, born of a woman and died on the cross.

It was this body of (sinful) flesh that died, His FATHER (LIFE AND TRUTH) did not die.

Christ said into thy hands (Father) I (the body) commend my spirit (it's the Fathers spirit that gives LIFE, to the BODY).

Christ body lay in the grave three days, then A NEW BODY AROSE, by the LIFE and POWER of the FATHER.

That new BODY is MANKIND, the dwelling place of THE FATHER, and the son at his right hand.

Colossians 1:27 ....this MYSTERY ....CHRIST IN YOU.....

1 Corinthians 15:38 But God giveth it (his creation) a body (Christ is the BODY OF THE FATHER) as it has pleased him, and to every SEED HIS (CHRIST) own body.

YOU ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST, through the workings of CHRIST RESURRECTION.

Revelation 20:6 Bless and Holy is he that has his part in the FIRST RESURRECTION: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be Priest of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

    GBU
