If the firstborn of Egypt was cursed to be struck down, why then did the Pharaoh live through it? Was he not the firstborn, and if not, then how did he become pharaoh?
And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.
Exodus 12:29 View whole chapter
And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.
Exodus 13:15 View whole chapter
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.

Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be: I am the LORD.
That is by far, the best explanation I've seen. I definitely missed that one sentence that states "From the firstborn of Pharaoh". God bless you abundantly and keep you and your family safe in these days! Thank you
I haven't studied this in depth, and in fact, have found no comments on it up till now. However, there are two things we can consider.
1. The secret things belong to the Lord. Only the things revealed belong to us and our children, Deut. 29:29. While there is much excellence in studying the Scripture, and we should do so diligently, there are some things that God has kept for Himself. He is a Sovereign Agent, needs no 'permission or approval' by us for what He does, and does not have to give answer to us for His dispensations. It is for us to humbly accept what He does by faith, acknowledging His absolute wisdom and righteousness in all of His proceedings, and thus, there must be a good reason for the course He takes in all situations. It is one thing to honestly search the Scriptures; it is quite another thing to have ungodly curiosity, as Uzziah did, and 'invade', or attempt to invade - what God keeps from us. It is far wiser to admit ' we don't know everything and can't explain everything', rather than to formulate some answer because we're too proud to admit that we cannot know everything about the Almighty. :)
2. The other possibility is that the firstborn of Pharaoh's siblings may have died or been killed, and Pharoah was next in line. We hear, for example, how Prince William is 'second in line' to Prince Charles. There is that principle of 'succession'. Another possibility would be that the firstborn was assassinated. It's a sad fact of history that there is much 'intrigue' in the governments of this world.
In any case, the Lord is righteous, and we will praise Him for His goodness and wisdom in all He does in heaven and in the earth, and in all the universe! Amen! Glory to God!
I'm not sure this is 100% the answer you're looking for so I'll open the floor to others to chime in. My understanding was Pharaoh was of a different generation than the first born slain during passover. However, Pharaoh's first-born was indeed slain. Here's the defining meaning from Websters 1828 Dictionary (the true Christian's dictionary):
FIRST'-BORN, adjective
1. First brought forth; first in the order of nativity; eldest; as the first-born son.
2. Most excellent; most distinguished or exalted. Christ is called the first-born of every creature. Colossians 1:1.
