GOD our FATHER does not want you to quote scripture when you pray; HE wants you to pray from your heart, not something man has said over and over. Even when you know not what to pray for your spirit does. Even if you sit their in silence HE hears what is in your heart for HE is a heart knower. Be at ease and in peace and always from the heart.
Dear Wilhelmina , you don't need to quote scriptures when you pray . I wish I could remember the entire Bible but I know i never will be able to . Prayers should come from your heart , talk honestly and openly to your God , through the High Priest that we have in Heaven , Jesus Christ the Righteous . Much love in Christ .
Hello Wilhelmina. Whether we're praying in private or within a prayer group, it is the Holy Spirit Who should be leading us in our prayer. We might plan beforehand who or what we should be praying for, but Christ's Spirit will lead us in what should be said. You might, in the Spirit, be praying concerning matters you're not fully aware of, or offering up prayer for someone you know little about yet praying for them using specifics.
Just as the Holy Spirit leads us to pray, He might bring to mind Scriptures that will glorify the Father or even be the "Amen" that others in the group yearn to hear & respond to. And yet, sometimes, no specific Scripture comes to mind. And that's okay if you remain earnest & sincere in prayer. Keep storing God's Word in your heart: it may just come up at prayer-time, but certainly can be used when the evil one comes to lead you away from your love & devotion to the Lord.
Personally speaking, Scriptures flow more easily in my heart when I first come with praise & adoration to the Lord, spending some time at the first part of my devotions - enjoying His Presence (Glory), His Mercy, His Wisdom, His Majesty, His Power. Remember, "Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me", says the Lord through the Psalmist. May God's Spirit lead you sister, as you devote this special time wholly to Him, declaring His Glory, expressing your love, interceding for others.
Why I cannot remember to quote his scriptures when I pray?
Christ said when you need a word to speak or a scripture to quote it will come to your mind, because THE WORD is the LIFE of the Body (YOU).
PROPHECY:
Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my SPIRIT within you, and CAUSE you (the body) to walk in my statutes, and keep my judgements, and DO THEM.
FULFILLED at pentecost:
Philippians 2:13 For it is GOD (the life) that WORKETH IN YOU both TO WILL and TO DO his good pleasure.
Your (the body) lips move because the life (Christ in You) CAUSES them to move.
Job 23:12 Neither have I gone back from the commandments of HIS LIPS (you are ONE with Christ)(LIFE is Christ and BODY is You).
Job 27:4 My (yours and Christ) LIPS shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.
Job 2:10 ...in all this Job did not sin with his lips.
Psalms 12:4 Who (one with no knowledge of truth) have said, With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are our own: who is Lord over us.
We were PREDESTINATED to be the IMAGE OF CHRIST.
John 5:30 I can of myself do nothing ...
Christ is the BODY that holds the LIFE of the FATHER.
John 15:5 .....for without me you can do nothing ....
WE are the BODY that holds the LIFE of Christ.
John 17:22 And the glory that thou gavest me I have given them, that they MAY BE ONE, even as WE ARE ONE.
Is it not mind boggling to walk in TRUTH.
God Bless YOU!
