    meaning of the word Apostle
  • Chris - In Reply - 2 years ago
Hi Micki. The word 'apostle' is from the Greek, 'apostolos', which means, 'messenger, or one sent out on a mission'. God's servants today may not be apostles, in the same sense as those twelve disciples sent out by Jesus Christ to make known this Good News of Salvation, but they do fulfil that same work as the Gospel is carried out to those whose lives are without hope & living in darkness. Paul was called to be an apostle ( Romans 1:1), but often he had to go to great pains to prove his apostleship, as he was not counted among the twelve (as in 2 Corinthians chapters 10 & 11).
