It's only recently that I have really understood the important incident in Genesis Ch 25 V 29-34 . I always felt slightly sorry for Esau , he was faint with hunger and Jacob should have just fed him I think . There is , I now realise , a lesson for us as Christians . Esau says : I am at the point to die , what profit shall this birthright do to me ? Let's apply this statement to ourselves , would we save our own physical lives and compromise our faith by not trusting in God's promise of eternal life in His Kingdom ? Would we try to save our lives in this world by sacrificing our place in the world to come ? If we are told to do something that we know is against God's will , in order to get food , would we do it to preserve our lives in this world ? I think I get it now . Yes , I am sometimes a bit dumb smiley face .
Thanks Suze for the good thought. Gen. 25:34 "Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright". It was like it meant nothing to him. Hebrews 12:16 is another warning to us as believers "Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright".
