Was Simon The Socerer the first Pope?
  • Giannis - In Reply - 2 years ago
    Dear Wayn

The RCatholic church claims that Simon Peter (not the Socerer) was the first pope in Rome, but there is no historical evidence about that. The early christians in their writtings never wrote something like this. A long time later Rome claimed that that was an ancient tradition, obviously to establish their authority and rule on all christians, since Jesus said to Peter that He is going to build His church on this rock, interpreting that the rock is Peter (Peter in Greek means rock).. Dear Wayne,

Simon the Sorcerer (Magus) was not the first "pope". He was one who practiced sorcery among the Samaritans. When he heard the Gospel from Apostle Phillip, he believed and was baptized. When Peter and other disciples came to Samaria and laid hands upon the new Samaritan believers (in which these received the Holy Spirit), Simon Magus wanted to buy the power to do this and other miraculous acts done by the apostles. He was rebuked by Peter sharply, and he repented.

Early Church history records Simon Magus as later falling into Gnostic apostasy, leading many astray. the word "simony" is named after him-it is using the ministry as a means to gain.

Who are the sons of God in Genesis.6:2...? Some believe that they are angels. I believe they are

flesh and blood humans, but not not of Adam's line. Angels cannot marry flesh and blood humans.

Absolutely "not" !First and foremost, we know that Christ is the Head of the Church ( Eph. 1:22). Peter was never the head of the church, nor is any other man- only Christ. Second, Peter himself said that Christ was the true Cornerstone ( 1Peter 2:4-8). Also read 4:11-12. The Church was built on Christ. He is the only True Foundation and there is no other Foundation. The Word of God says: " For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ " ( 1Cor. 3:11).

Jesus in John 3, told Nicodemas about being baptized by the Holy Spirit. He first described the Holy Spirit like wind. (Wind is invisible usually). Jesus said Nicodemus Had to be Born Again.

When we ask for forgiveness of sins we've done, and ask for forgiveness in truth, from our hearts; Jesus baptizes us. Water baptism wasn't mentioned.

Water baptism is something that many people want to do. Mostly because of how John the Baptist, baptized Jesus. It's ok if you do, and if you don't or can't.

People are born again everywhere. They become conscious of sin before the holiness of God; become convicted in their hearts.

I'm a Streetpreacher and I've seen many people on a sidewalk who were already ready to pray the sinners prayer. (They just didn't want to go to church alone.) That's why Greeters in a church are a very important task__as unto the Lord Jesus. To have a friend, you have to be friendly.

Jesus says, "Come ye blessed of My Father

I have a friend who did 3 Military tours in the Mideast. He'd would do a Christian Bible study with any Soldier who asked to be saved; and my friend led numerous men on the Battle field. It's a very holy moment for anyone.

We are seed planters and harvester's. The Lord of the Harvest sends workers into the Harvest. That's us.

When we get to heaven and the Bema Seat Judgement with Jesus as judge. Everything will be reviewed. Everyone will get to see all those we spoke to, who believed on Jesus because we worked the Harvest.

People need to pray to the Lord of the Harvest every day before they leave the house. One day the Holy Spirit will say to your spirit, THAT ONE. Just tell the truth; I believe the Lord wants to say something to you. Have you believed Jesus for forgiveness of sins? Can I help you?

People are lonely, beat up, and down by life.

    Blessings to you
