One of the few things I never understood is..If Jesus knew he was going to raise Lazarus from the dead, why then did He weep? John 11:35

Jesus had compassion and saw the sadness of all there.

I am always moved by the account Lazarus's death. The compassion of Jesus and yet how slow to believe us as humans can be. Notice that Thomas witnessed Lazarus's coming back to life, but when he was told that Jesus had a rose he wouldn't believe until he saw it. Another lesson on how Mary and Martha approached Jesus both said "Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died," but Mary came and fell down at his feet.

True. Guess that is why some ppl todays have trouble believing in Him because they can't see Him. I heard once, we can't see the wind but we know it is there! This is were Faith comes in and the Grace of God. Those of us that believe He is our Lord and Savior and have Him in your hearts yet have not seen.

The answer is he was heart in His heart because after everthing they witnessed Him doing they still didn't believe.

Texsis The answer is in the context of the chapter, this happens to be one of my favorite reciords in Gods word and the reason

is because absolutely no one believed he would do it. when it says Jesus wept is because as many miracles as they say saw those

surrounding Him still did not believe and he was more hurt in Heart because what does it take for you all to believe and the proof

is in verses 40-42 ending in Father I know thou always hearest me.

That makes a lot of sense too. All good answers. Thank you all, funny things is the first thought that came to my head was...cuz He is a real man.! :)

    Hello Texsis,

I think he wept because he was feeling empathy for Lazarus' sisters, Mary and Martha, and others gathered to mourn Lazarus' death. Hebrews 4:15 says that Jesus is our High Priest who can sympathize with our weaknesses, having experienced suffering on our behalf. Jesus, being God as well as human, understood the sorrow of these people deeply and perfectly, better than anyone ever could.

Hi Texsis , I always believed that Jesus wept because , John Ch 11 V 3 , Martha and Mary send a message to him telling him that Lazarus is ill , in V 5+6 we read that Jesus loved the three of them but that he didn't go to them for another two days , I suspect that Martha and Mary expected Jesus to come to them quickly to heal Lazarus V 21 Martha says : if thou hadst been here , my brother had not died , Mary says much the same to him in V 32 , I think perhaps they were a little disappointed in Jesus , that he hadn't come sooner and Jesus might have known about their disappointment , V 33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping , and the Jews also weeping which came with her , he groaned in the spirit , and was troubled , Jesus was moved by all those tears that were being shed by people that he loved , he might also have felt that they were reproaching him in their hearts for not coming sooner , he was moved with compassion towards them . Jesus wept . Just because we know some one is saved that doesn't mean we are not allowed to be sad when they die or feel sympathy for their loved ones . These are just my thoughts about that incident , much love in Christ .
