    Why did John baptize.
  • S Spencer - In Reply - 2 years ago
    Hi Robert.

John baptism was the baptism of repentance.

Acts 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that THEY should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

John was preparing the way for Israel.

Israel trusted in the promise to Abraham made them children of Abraham because the Kinsman of the flesh. The repentance John preached was to turn them from that and turn them to Christ. "FROM UNBELIEF TO BELIEF."

Note: Matthew 3:9-11 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

    God bless.

    Robert,

John wanted people to repent of their sins and prepare their hearts to receive the Messiah, whom John knew was alive at that time and that he, himself was called by God from infancy to be the prophet that prepared the way for the Messiah. He prepared the way by calling people to repent and be baptized and then pointed to Jesus after Jesus was baptized and said, "Behold the Lamb of

God that takes away the sins of the world." He was told by God that the Messiah would come to be baptized and that upon being baptized God would speak from heaven and the Holy Spirit would come upon the Messiah. When this happened with Jesus' baptism, John then knew who the Messiah was-his very cousin! John must have known something ahead of this because he told Jesus that Jesus should be baptizing him, not the other way around. So, John was listening to God and seeking to know whom he was to announce, and God inform him concerning the Messiah both before Jesus came to be baptized and after Jesus was baptized. Therefore, John announced that Jesus was the long awaited Messiah.

Robert John the baptists came to prepare Gods chosen israels hearts to receive the word to come from jesus Christ,

also as jesus christ said to fulfill all righteousness. The law ended in practice with john the baptist that's why in

John 1:17 grace and truth came with Jesus christ. Also notice in Acts 1:5-8 john indeed baptized with water but incontrast

ye shall absolute tense be baptized with Holy spirit the lesser the law replaced by Grace via the spirit. The first one works

the second without merit cannot be earned through works must be believed by romans 10:9+10 God given then the works is

putting on the word mind and doing it.

Hiya Robert lemme give ya my slant on John The Baptise....His baptism was an EXTERNAL washing of the flesh but he points to another baptiser coming after him as Jesus the lamb of God that wd baptise humanity with his own blood AN INTERNAL WASHING....As Jesus had said its the things that come from the heart that defies a man but to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man.

......Jesus knew that all of his disciples had been water baptised but he warns them saying if i wash thee not you will have NO PART WITH ME...Which speaks volumes of a greater baptism of their hearts by his Blood etc....An internal baptism of our hearts

.....But Jesus was also water baptised but he had no sin it was to fulfil the law of moses that 2 turtle doves wd be washed ( Christ and the disciples ) the Church his bride....Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave his life for it....As 1 of the doves had to be killed and his blood sprinkled on the living bird the Church then the living bird was set free in an open field....Whom the son sets free is free in deed....

.....Christ and his disciples answer to the 2 turtle doves but 1 wd have to die for the other then the living bird was set free

.....In Song of Solomon the 2 lovers are Christ and the Church but they refer to each other as having DOVES EYES....Which is prophetic that 1 of the lovers/doves wd have to die and his blood sprinkled on the living bird the Church etc

.....I think that is y the Dove descended on Jesus as the H.G. was trying to tell the ppl that this man Jesus was their sacrificial Dove that wd have to be washed in the Jordan and be killled for the living bird the Church....Remember Jesus died for the Church as John was of the tribe of levi thus he cd do this washing as Moses had said had to be done for sin or leprosy.

......Remember Jesus was in the house of Simon when Mary broke the alabaster box....Moses had said that if the leprosy or house was healed a sweet smell had to be offered up...Mary

Isaiah 40:3 prophesy about John the Baptist

"The VOICE of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:"

    John 1:20-23

20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

23 He said, I am the VOICE of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias (Isaiah)
