The record of Jesus' birth is contained in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. We were never commanded to celebrate His birth, but also never commanded not to. I think it is up to the discretion of each believer to decide on this matter, as Paul says, "whatever is not of faith is sin" as well as affirming that we have liberty in Jesus to celebrate feasts, Sabbaths, making some days more special than others or not to do any of these things. I do think that it was important or my children to be reminded of Jesus birth in a celebration year after year. It helps to form their conscious knowledge of the Scriptural account of His advent and an opportunity to repeatedly remind our children why He came. His birth can be celebrated any time. But Christmas does offer a ripe opportunity to do so as well as witness to the revelation of His birth in Scripture to those who do not yet follow Jesus but may upon hearing of how and why He became "God with us".
Dear Donna; thank you for your question. First let me say that I am a born-again believer; and I celebrated Christmas every year until a few years ago. God convicted me; questioning me one year while I was busy strewing the house inside and out with all kinds of 'decorations', "WHY are you doing all of this?" And it hit me; it made me think DEEPLY about WHY, REALLY I was doing all of that. Then one of my siblings; some time after that; told me that the Lord had led her into a study about Christmas and its origins. I looked deeply into it myself and I was shocked to find out that, first of all; God says NOTHING in His Word to indicate He WANTS us to celebrate Jesus' birth. Jesus; during 'the last supper' with His disciples; told them that in communion; we are celebrating His DEATH and His RESURRECTION; NOT His BIRTH. Though I KNEW that God never told us in His Word to celebrate Jesus' birth; I was SO INDOCRINATED by CULTURE; that I LEFT OFF being obedient to God's Word! I chose CULTURE over CHRIST!
No; we are not to celebrate 'Christmas', Jesus is NOT 'the reason for the season'. The reason for the season is paganism.
We can not 'clean it up' by celebrating it as Christians. Our Christianity cannot purge the evil out of the roots of celebrating Christmas; it must simply be avoided. It can be hard; we might lose family members and friends; but we GAIN the APPROVAL in that way from GOD; which is the MOST important thing.
I NEVER condemn ANYONE who DOES celebrate Christmas; I look to see (In Christians) if there is any GOOD fruit in their lives outside of them celebrating Christmas. I just believe it's BEST to avoid celebrating it; helping us to 'beat down our flesh DAILY' as we should. And I NEVER get haughty around anyone who does still celebrate Christmas; I am no better than they are. By God's grace; I try to remain HUMBLE; as I SHOULD.
Yes Cindy, it does help. I have been struggling with celebrating Christmas for years. I barely celebrate it now.
I raised my kids celebrating it with them but looking back I never had peace about it. It was always very burdensome. Now my kids tell their kids there's a Santa and they celebrate it.
I did not lie to them about Santa. Instead I lied to them and told the it was Jesus birthday? I can't find that date in the Bible or the commandment to celebrate it. I got in trouble for telling my grandkids Santa wasn't real.
I love what you said about Jesus saying to take communion and to remember His death and resurrection Now that's truth. And it feels right.
It's just a commercialized pagan holiday. How sad. I need to be an example to my family.
Elizabeth was in her 6th month with John the baptist when she was visited by Mary; her baby leaped in the womb at the presence of The Holy Spirit of Jesus Luke 1:36 .
Seeing how Elizabeth's husband Zacharias was an Levitical Priest, and his course of abia was in June, that would put Mary visiting her in December 6 months later.

I hope this helps you Donna. Take care.
