Esau Sold His Birthright to Jacob, because it held no Value to Him. What We miss is this, This is a Well to Do Family, and Nobody is Going to Starve or Faint or Collapse from lack of Food. Food could be Summoned ,,just like that by Servants. The Birthright also Carried More Responsibility than Esau wanted to Carry. He saw a Easy Out,, and then later on, He could hold it over His Brother. If You are left let's Say,, a Car that You care absolutely nothing about. And Someone Else, says , Hey I can take that Off Your Hands, how much do You want for it? And then Later on, You feel Resentment at that Person, because Time has went by and now You Realize the Value of it now. That's Exactly what Esau did with Jacob, as Time went on, He saw the Value of His Birthright, and became Bitter against Jacob. This is Our Nature, We see as a Whole , Someone being Successful with Something We Struggled with and it Makes Us Frustrated, Envious and even like Esau,, Hostile. But God has a Plan, and Always Remember that All Who Call Upon The Name of the Lord shall be Saved.
Esau didn't believe in God's promise of resurrection . He thought he was going to die and he didn't want to . He valued his physical life in this world and didn't believe that he had eternal life with God . He put his life in the here and now above his eternal life in the future because he didn't believe in it . He thought that this life was all there is and therefore wanted to cling on to it . He didn't have faith in God and the promises that God had made .
