When the Lord is differentiating between Lily's of the field not toiling when they grow--in contrast to perhaps other lilies (because there are water lilies as well), the Lord also says, they don't spin.

What is the actual meaning of this word in context to the rest of the Scripture verse?

I have noticed that water lilies have a sort of cork screw vine that does have the appearance of a coiling process in its birth to the surface of the pond. It kind of reminds me of a babies natural, physical movement in the birth canal. The baby does turn--essentially it does spin or turn like a cork

    screw.

What is the Lord telling us when He says that the Lily does not spin?

Hi Angelah. In reference to Matthew 6:25-34, the message that Jesus was conveying was that we should not be worried about where our needs for food or clothing would come from. God knows the needs of His children just as knows the needs of His other creations, of animals & plants.

So if God provides for them, even when they are even incapable of working, how much more will our Heavenly Father care for those who love & trust Him for their needs. So the example of the lilies of the field, is given to show that they don't need to work to survive & retain their beauty - if God is concerned for them & looks after them, He will certainly do the same for us. But of course, this doesn't excuse us from pursuing good honest work ( 2 Thessalonians 2:10), but when we trust God & put Him first, He will surely provide our needs ( Matthew 6:33).

Apologies. The 2 Thessalonians reference should be 2 Thessalonians 3:10.

Jesus is referring to the way clothing was made , by first spinning the raw material into yarn or thread , which was then used to make clothing . Ever heard of a spinning wheel ?
