COnclusion (for real this time) on committees. My point is in conclusion is that pastors may not know these things. My pastor actually agreed with me about a group invited to one of his social events. The communication was bad with the music director. Since then it has been better venues. He wasn't aware as well about certain music and groups that legally are supposed to get a cut due to copyright issues when their songs are played. He didn't seem to think so; but I know that if the music ever is recorded that would be an issue. The theological impact of the verbage of music also has to be evaluated.
I would suppose that preachers known to be errant could come up (again I am supposing the leadership is unaware of something that a layperson may be informed of). There are times to say "nay" in voting; that's my main point here.
Church polity can be very good or very bad. It can uplift and tear down. I've experienced all of these. There are different ways that a congregation administers the matters of church business. Some have elders, some have committees, some have a pastor overseeing everything. All of these have their strengths and weaknesses. So, my take is for members to gain understanding about such matters early on so that they can work within the normal process or, if they do not agree with such process, they can prayerfully move on to another fellowship.
I can't say what approach is best. And as a church grows in numbers, what worked for a small group may need to change for a larger group.
