Qs to a pastor or anyone not guessing...my son asked what 1Chronicles 16:30 ment? I told him we are to be strong in Christ. He thinks it means, believing world is flat, that it can't be moved cuz it's flat.! What is true meaning???
  • Adam - In Reply - 2 years ago
Isaiah 40:22 - circle of the earth.

To me this more strongly suggests the earth is round than any reference people have to creatively interpret in order to claim it means the earth is flat.

What's very strange about this argument is that you can fly around the world and end up in the same place. People are doing this every day. Plus its night in some places and day in other places at the same time and is obviously a shadow of the sun. It's just a very odd argument because its so easily proven that the earth is a globe.

We are living in times where people disagree on what the truth is. Nearly everything is debated and disagreed on these days. People habitually lie and our society seems to be collapsing, as people prefer lies over truth and are using it to commit evil. For example, I think companies like Pfizer and JnJ have become rich off of killing people. A lie was told that something was "safe and effective" and people believed it. A for profit company with one of the worst track records of corruption and scandals was suddenly 100% believed without question, and anyone who doubted their motives or the safety of the product was called derogatory names.

yes Adam, but in that it says "tent" and references to Ps 19:4 which says: Their 1/line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a 2/tabernacle for the sun. both meaning tent & if you've ever gone camping they have (dome) an end. Just saying, I can totally see the confusion.! Making it completely understandable why so many have trouble understanding much less believing the bible. Its confusing as ever. Hebrew & Greek meanings are different then English to boot. Beings we all agree that the most and really only important thing is to *Love God w/all our being, our neighbor as ourselves, to keep Jesus in our hearts & live accordingly*, lets leave it at that. Its becoming to much time & I for one, not to be rude, really don't care.! p.s. that was said with a smile by the way.! :) continue in prayer and peace be with everyone.!

Amen & thanx. Ya its the regulations & limited videos that is scary to him. making him think this I'm sure. Just another way for the government to scare us into doing what they want us to do. Thank God believers don't fall for this. Merry Christmas & God bless "Texsis"

he says the moon landing was not real or flag wouldn't have waved in no wind and in Genesis it says "firmament" which when he looked up is a dome or something, I forget but I will try
  • Chris - In Reply - 2 years ago
Yes Texsis, I've heard of several arguments against the moon landing occurring, including the 'fluttering' of the flag, no evidence of stars, the sunlight in the wrong place, etc. Dealing with those matters will only take us to a dead end, as one is subject to what material he wants to read & what he wants to believe. In any case, the moon landing shouldn't affect our faith in Christ & what He has sacrificially done for us.

In regards to the 'firmament', the Hebrew word is 'rakia', meaning 'an extended surface or an expanse'. One could put the word 'dome' in that, and of course, that idea could then be carried through with this 'dome' sitting on a flat Earth, etc., etc. But when we continue to read in Genesis chapter 1, & see the word 'firmament' being used, we get a better picture of what this actually is.

Verse 6: waters were on the Earth (v2), & God separated those waters, having an expanse (firmament) to separate the waters below & above it (vv6,7). That 'firmament' God called heaven (v8) and then He put 'lights' in this firmament to give a separation of day & night, for signs, seasons, & years (v14). So, if this was a 'dome', then it was one that appears to be what we call the 'universe' and not something placed on the Earth. Rather, this expanse is the sky we see & the universe beyond that contains the heavenly bodies, with the separated water on the Earth & above this expanse. What happened to this water above the firmament, we're not told. And where 'firmament' appears in the other books, e.g. Psalms, Ezekiel, & Daniel), the same Hebrew word is used to suggest such an expanse as described in the Genesis account.

Yet I did say to him that it really does not matter what shape the earth is, round, square or triangle..we the main thing is we need to love God with all our being and help anyone in need.

Hello Texsis. 1 Chronicles 16:30 ties in with Psalm 96. Though Psalm 96 doesn't give us an author, we know that 1 Chronicles 16:7-36 was a Psalm uttered by King David "to thank the LORD & given into the hand of Asaph and his brethren". We can assume that Psalm 96 was also authored by David, or at least a person iterating a part of David's praise to God.

And so, after giving much praise to the LORD, calling all people to praise Him ( 1 Chronicles 16:28-30), in verse 30 David calls Earth's inhabitants to "fear before Him", or fall in reverence to the LORD of the Earth & heavens. Then David, in verse 30, says, "the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved", as he also says in verses 31-33, 'for the heavens & earth to rejoice, the seas & fields to also rejoice, & the trees in the field to sing out at His Presence'.

These verses, speak about all of creation should, and would, praise their Creator. And therefore in verse 30, the thought here is that the world (the Earth) would always continue in its orbit & remain entire & complete, in accordance to the Command of God for its planned duration. In Hebrew, the language of this Book, it says that 'the Earth will be firmly established (kun)' and 'it will not totter, shake or slip off course (mot)'. So, here we see, nothing about the Earth being flat & can't move - rather, the Earth's presence in the universe & in our galaxy is ordained by God & He promises to keep it in its present orbit & not budge or slip out of it.

But if your son believes or thinks that the Earth is flat, he would need to consider other demonstrable facts of the spherical shape of the Earth & its orbit around the Sun. The one I'm most familiar with, as an aviation enthusiast, is the plotting of an air route (say between London & NY). On a flat map, one can draw a straight line between them, but in actual fact that straight line is a longer route, since a curved line (following the curve of the Earth), is the shorter route - no flat Earth.

In midst of studying but look up "project loon"
  • Chris - In Reply - 2 years ago
I looked up 'Project Loon'; never heard of it before. It was created to provide internet services to remote areas that had no hope of connecting to the internet. But the project has since been shelved. Did your son bring this up to, in some way, support his beliefs? I couldn't pick up on anything relevant, except for an interesting concept, now ended. Thanks for that Texsis.

Key words to me "now ended". that's what I took from it too. thanx again, your awesome.

wow, we need to pray for him. I have nothing lefty. showed him all this and then he in turn asked, why is it the rocket always leans to the right (as he shows me a video) after interring atmosphere. then he proceeds to show me a video of a camera mounted to the rockets flight to the moon, that hits space and suddenly hits what seems to be water and even makes the sound of such action. he says hence, the separated waters. goes back to the "who cares as long as we have Jesus & live accordingly.
