    John

I would like to add one more thought comes to mind along with what Myself and Brother Jesse has shared.

Fruit is what's produced inward and expressed outward, the cleansing is internally and the action outwardly is caused by this cleansing.

This is what the natural man can not do.

This is what Jesus is telling the Pharisees in Matthew 23:25-26 "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

This is what Israel could not produce. ( Jeremiah 2:21.)

There was no heart change in the working/covenant of the law.

I believe this is why Jesus says in John 15:1. I AM THE TRUE VINE, and my Father is the husbandman.

This production comes by the new birth or " Born from above" being connected to the life giver.

We are branches baring what the vine produces, being that we're LIVE and attached.

You see the outward result in being a live branch in baptism or "Identified" with Christ mentioned in Romans 6.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

    Hi John.

You are referring to John 15:1-12.

    1) I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

    2) Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

    3) Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

The Greek word for purge is kathairo, which means "to cleanse. The Lord cleanses you that you bring forth "BEAR" more fruit.

Some people consider the purging to be pruning, and He does that too, but it really means to cleanse. There is no doubt that the Lord does some pruning. He moves into our lives and takes out those things that offend,

What is important to see here is who is producing the fruit? The answer is in verses 5 and 6.

    4) Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

    5) I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

    Verses 6-12.

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

I will leave off there so others may add and improve on my reply and perhaps I will join later.

    God bless.

    John,

The fruit is what is produced by Gods Spirit. A person who has been born of Gods Spirit continuously produces fruit because it is the Spirit in them producing the fruit.

In John Chapter 15, there are two important phrases that we need to understand. One is where Jesus says every branch (in me), and the other phrase is (abiding in me).

These are describing two different different branches, the first one (in me) is a dead branch unable to produce fruit. The second branch, the one (abiding in the vine) continuously produces fruit because this branch is feeding off the life source which is Jesus Christ.

It's like a fruit tree in your garden. There are branches in the tree that produce fruit, and there are branches that are in the tree that are dead branches which are incapable of producing fruit because they are dead branches.

So the person who has received Christ and been born of His Spirit, that person is the one who permanently abides in Him, and that person will be continuously producing fruit.

Otherwise, a person is just physically attached to the vine but they are a dead branch because they have never been born of Gods Spirit.

I can break down these few verses in John Chapter 15 if you would like me to? Otherwise I'll just keep this short.

Blessings to you in Christ Jesus!
