Hi , it's me with my promised inconsistencies . I'm not going to give any kind of exposition about these verses , please read them in the order I give them and make of them what you will . There are two incidents referred to and they are the only two where I can find any real contradictions . So ,we start with : 1st Samuel chapter 31 verses 11-13 ,then 2nd Samuel chapter 2 verses 5+6 , compare these two with the mood of 2nd Samuel chapter 21 (a loaded chapter) verse 12 . Next , we start with 1st Kings chapter 15 verse 5 , try to keep that in mind and go to David's oath that he swore to Saul in 1st Samuel chapter 24 verses 21+22 . Now go to 1st Samuel chapter 18 verse 19 , then back to loaded 2nd Samuel chapter 21 verses 1-9 . It would seem that at some point , Merab had died and her sister Michal was bringing up her children that Merab had with her husband Adriel , these are David's wife's children , Saul's grandchildren . We could also talk about 2nd Samuel chapter 24 , in verse 1 , the writer states , that God moved David against Israel . However in verses 10 and 17 , David is very willing to accept responsibility for what he sees as his own sinfulness . I make no comment on any of these scriptures as I feel as if I'm opening a can of worms that will wriggle all over me . I don't have a problem with them and they are the only inconsistencies I can find . I would be interested to know what you all think .
Remember to pray for wisdom: James 1:5, 2Timothy 2:15
1Samuel 31:11-13 note 1Samuel 31:9-11, 2Samuel 2:5-6, 2Samuel 2:4-7, there is no contradiction here notice the difference Amos 2:1, 2Samuel 21:12, 'stolen' translated word 'ganab' meaning= to theive, take away, get by stealth, ) they took, 1Samuel 31:12, I think it is to emphasise cover of darkness 1Samuel 31:12, dangerous 'valiant men" stole 2Samuel 21:12 because it was in the possession of they enemy as spoils of war. 1Samuel 31:7-10, Ecclesiastes 3:1-3,
1Kings 15:5, 1Samuel 24:21-22, 1Samuel 18:19, 1Samuel 21, = Matthew 12:3-12, Jesus words. 2Samuel 21, notice David honored his oath 2Samuel 21:17, No contradiction, notice : 1Samuel 18:21, 1Samuel 19:17 Saul, his own daughter, same daughter Saul didn't value her life? Adultery was also punishable by death, stoning! You pointed out Saul gave David's wife same woman to another blatantly adultery, I was more surprised by David's mercy by restoring her position, sparing her life from death penalty & also sparing the lovers life. 2Samuel 3:14-16,
Remember Saul's 1st daughter? She was promised to David, before the people, again this too could be considered adultery, treacherous, etc. 1Samuel 17:25-27, 1Samuel 18:17-19,25,
1Samuel 17:25-54, weird but again we see 'spoils of war' also, 1Thessalonians 4:8,
2Samuel 24:1, GOD moved him, Job 12:16, 2Samuel 2:16, 2Samuel 2, why wasn't she there, rejoicing in the LORD? 2Samuel 2:19,
I am sorry , I guess I should have given some exposition . I will try and do so but I'm not confident at this sort of thing so I will keep it brief . Regarding Saul's body , in 1st Samuel David blessed the men of Jabesh for risking their lives in retrieving Saul's body . In 2nd Samuel he seems to have a beef with them and accuses them of stealing Saul's body and he removes him from where the men of Jabesh buried him . With regard to David's only sin being against Uriah , we see in 1st Samuel chapter 24 that David swears an oath to God , that he will not destroy Saul's offspring . Merab was given to Adriel , we don't know if that was her choice , I can guess that it wasn't and she was a pawn that Saul used to annoy David . Judging by 2nd Samuel chapter 21 , she at some point died and her sister Michal ( also David's wife ) was raising her sisters children . Under the guise of appeasing the Gibeonites , who weren't even Israelites , David breaks his oath , has Saul's grandchildren and children by his concubine , murdered . My guess also , that Michal didn't have any children to David because if she had , they would also have been of Saul's lineage and that would have caused David no end of problems when naming his successor . The incident in 2nd Samuel chapter 24 was just a last minute one that came to me as I was typing my original post . My whole point was that the statement in 1st Kings chapter 15 verse 5 , could be seen to be inaccurate if investigated thoroughly . It makes no difference to me personally , all things work together for good to them that love God and David certainly did that and was forgiven for his sins . I was also giving these references as the only ones in the whole Bible where even a tiny bit of contradiction could be found by me . Others may think they have found some but these are all I could find after many years of reading . Sorry for not being clear , I shall make more effort in future , thanks for your reply . You were clear , I wasn't
