    The Bible (part 2)

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Luke 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Psalms 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Revelation 22:18,19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

These are just a sampling of the many verses that speak about the scriptures, the Bible, the Word of God. They should be examined both in their immediate context and the context of the entire Bible if we are to come to Truth regarding the true nature of the Bible.

Amen David0921 , the Bible is the living word of God , Jesus said ' let these sayings sink down into your ears ' . We must be diligent in reading our Bible , we must read all of it , every day for the rest of our lives . Each time we read it it must be as if we were reading that part of it for the first time , with an open heart and mind . It truly is a wellspring of life to us and it definately interprets itself , but you will only realise this if you read all of it , regularly .

Hello Pierre , I don't disagree with you but we have to remember that many people , throughout history , wouldn't have had any clue about God or Jesus unless they had read the Bible , the Word had to be published throughout the earth . The main thing for me , is that I learn by Jesus's example . How he behaved towards others and especially his obedience to God's will . This is the whole law to me , the law of love , faith and obedience , these traits epitomise Christ and he is our example , his example lives in my heart and many times I have to stop myself and think ' no , this isn't what Jesus would do ' so I shouldn't be doing it or ,' this is what Jesus would do so ' I must do it . He says ,Learn from me for I am meek and lowly in heart . We are children and children need to be taught , how to behave and what our parents expect from us . We cannot hope to please God if we don't take notice of His Son . Love in Christ .

    Yes Jema,

There is no substitute for spending time in the scriptures. And it is so very important as to how we approach the scriptures and our view regarding the very nature of the Bible itself.

If we fail to recognize that every book every chapter every phrase every word is from the very Mind and Mouth of God Himself; if we look at various passages as having different levels of authority; if we do not allow the Bible to be its own interpreter and it's own dictionary; if we begin to introduce the wisdom of man into our understanding rather than applying the principles that God lays down; if we do not come humbly to the Word of God recognizing that in ourselves we know nothing; if we do not come with a desire to be obedient to what we find in the Bible; we can easily be led into error rather than into truth.

And if we are believing something other than the Truth, we are believing, and perhaps teaching a Lie.

Ultimately it is God Himself that must open our spiritual eyes and ears in order to come to Truth regarding anything in the Bible as we compare scripture with scripture. And God does this on His timetable, not ours.

2 Timothy 3:16,17 ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
