What does it mean peace of God which surpasses all understanding
  • Jema - In Reply - 1 year ago
Hi Mykeshia , I would liken it to being in the middle of a hurricane , literally :). All around you ( in this world ) is chaos . Confusion , fear , uncertainty , danger etc . We , as Christians , do not suffer these things , we don't belong to this world and the things of it cannot touch us , we are safe from them . Imagine in Egypt , during the plagues that God sent upon the Egyptians , did any of those plagues touch His chosen people ( which means us if we believe in Him and His Son ) ? No they did not , imagine how distraught and terrified the Egyptians were , they represent the kingdoms of men , this world , living in fear and insecurities but not us Christians . All we need us to be close to our God and Saviour and we are fine . Think of those Israelites who fought for God in the days of David , all those terrifying battles , hand to hand combat , thousands of men full of fear and blood lust , God was with the Israelites and they rarely ever lost a man except if they had in some way disobeyed God's command . We are ' called out ' and we must feel that in our hearts , we must behave , think and feel differently to those who don't know the Truth . They live in the continuous storm of this crazy world , we stand on solid firm ground , the Truth , our Rock of Salvation . Our feet won't slip no matter how strong the storm gets . Wait for the LORD , He is coming .

    Blessings Mykeshia,

The Bible does speak of the peace of God which passeth understanding. This peace is totally incapable of being shaken by errors or mistakes of any kind. It denies the ability of anything NOT of God to affect us. Actually, this is the proper use of denial.

In peace one needs nothing and asks for nothing. This statement makes it obvious that very few in this world are experiencing this kind of peace on a steady basis, including myself. Nevertheless, we should always pursue it from the only Source in which it abides: the Holy Spirit. Contrary to peace, in war, one demands everything and finds nothing. This war is literally in the mind that believes in separation from God and each other. The peace of God which passeth understanding is the Mind of God NOT at war which KNOWS only of HIS holy Self, His perfect creation, and ONENESS with His Creation. Only equals are at peace. God knows us only in peace, not war; and this is our reality.

The absence of this peace of God means but one thing: We think we do not will for God's Son(s) what His Father wills for him. It will be given us to see our brothers' worth when all we want for him/her is peace. And what we want for him we WILL receive.

The peace of God which passeth understanding is impossible without mastering forgiveness. Where could our peace arise BUT from forgiveness? The Christ in us looks only on the truth, and sees no condemnation that could need forgiveness. Christ is at peace BECAUSE He sees no sin. One might say Our sinless bother is our guide to peace. Our sinful brother is our guide to pain. And which I CHOOSE to see I will behold.

Peace and understanding go together and never can be found alone.

    GOD IS

    peace
