In the garments that God commanded Moses to make, for service, the Spirit gives qualities required under Levitical priesthood.
"And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it./ Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof./ And thou shalt set in it settings of stones,(Ex.28:16-17)
Front and back
What is the significance of the foursquare being doubled? It has a front and back is it not?
When Moses requested God to reveal his face God would only reveal his 'backside' which gives us an insight into the narrative mode of the Spirit.
"Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live./ And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:/ And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:/ And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.(Ex.33:19-23)".
The breastplate is for glory and beauty. That is the front. Its real purpose is in matters where the high priest was called to mediate. It was the breastplate of judgment, because he wore it upon his breast when he went to ask counsel of the Lord, to give judgment in any particular case; as also when he sat as judge to teach the law, and to determine controversies. (Le.10:11;De.17:8-9). So backside held the key to his office. It relates to Christ the Mediator. Glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ is the light of the knowledge, which is shed in our hearts. (2 Co.4:6)
