"Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:11 KJV
I'm not aware of any scripture saying you're dead. I assume you believe this is a metaphor and not literal.
If in Christ it says you're alive in Christ. Not dead. Scripture does say dead to sin, but that's different I haven't seen any scripture saying you're flat out dead, have you?
Luke 20:36 And THEY (who are they) CAN DIE NO MORE (they DIED on the cross of Christ):for they are EQUAL unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the CHILDREN of the RESURRECTION.
If you are the children of the RESURRECTION, you had to literally died to be resurrected.
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and Holy is he that hath part in the FIRST RESURRECTION ......
Isaiah 26:19 ... together with my dead body shall they arise ......
God spoke the words before you were ever born of woman, that you would be raised as ONE with Christ.
The carnal mind is ENMITY against the words of God.
The Spirit of TRUTH was SENT to destroy the WORKS of Satan, our carnal mind.
Philippians 1:29 For it is GIVEN TO YOU on the behalf of Christ (the Spirit of TRUTH) TO BELIEVE ......
"I have met people who claim to have reached sinless perfection in their lives, but in reality, I notice many sins happening in their lives. They have just pridefully either deluded themselves, or ignore these sines, or else attribute them to mistakes or weaknesses, but do not admit them to be sin."
This type of individual's current state is very concerning and DANGEROUS! It felt off in my Spirit when you mentioned it. This can be an individual who has RESISTED the Holy Spirit for SO long or so many times they don't "hear" the Holy Spirit. They go AGAINST their [([([( CONSCIENCE ])])])] so many times they may have damaged it beyond repair. Paul talks about having a damaged conscience. 1 Timothy 4:2 (KJV) 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
In 1 Tim Paul states that a person has gone against their conscience SO many times it is dead. It is now leading them in the wrong direction! What is right is wrong and what is wrong is right and they make sense of it in their minds! This is utterly terrifying and a good illustration and warning to others to NOT go against your conscience as that may be the Holy Spirit trying to move you a certain way. So don't do that before it is TOO late!
Dear Jim, I am not that person who claims to have attained sinless perfection, as I explained. So do not worry for me.
We are to grow in grace, and therefore, we will certainly live in obedience to God more and more. But, also, the Holy Spirit will show us more and more our sins we are not perceiving. He examines our hearts and reveals to us how we are giving in to the sinful nature. This work of His helps us know how we are to further resist temptation and walk by the Spirit and not by the sinful nature.
We need God in our lives in a right relationship through the Son, Jesus. We need the Spirit's regenerative work and indwelling. We need our Heavenly Father's justification of us on the merit's of His Son's sacrifice. We need all three Persons of the Godhead to make us what this One God desires for us, to be conformed to the perfect humanity of Christ, to be like Him in this life and in eternity. In this life we are in the process of becoming as God intends for us; in eternity, we will BE as God intends for us forever. We will be complete in Christ, without corruption, sin, or mortality. It will be so wonderful to be with Jesus in the place He has prepared for us and to be like Him in every way God has willed for us to become. So looking forward to that time. But in this time, I determine each day to live a life that honors Him; to listen for the direction of the Holy Spirit in my thoughts, words, and actions. May these be a pleasing aroma to God.
I completely agree with what you are saying here, Amen! As long as we are in this fleshly body, we cannot be completely free from sin. And what about the sins we don't even realize we are committing? What does it mean in Romans 14:23, that little phrase which reads, "for whatsoever is not of faith is sin."
Once we become aware of what that phrase truly means, we then realize how difficult (and dare I say impossible) it is to be completely sin free. Personally, I find it to be a struggle at the end of the day to confess to the Lord that I went the entire day without sin.
When we stay in the Word which washes us daily, attend Church, are active in Christian activities, when we fellowship with other Christians these things help guard against us going down the path of sin and eventual backsliding.
If you notice when Christians start not reading their bible, don't attend church as much, not involved in Christian activities such as witnessing or whatnot, then they start to backslide. They are spending more and more time in the WORLD and not on their Christian matters.
During spiritual warfare, Satan's primary attacks target your thinking and emotions. If he can condition you to think and feel contrary to God's Word, he has won a significant victory. That's why he attempts to fill your mind with lies, immorality, false doctrine i.e. Universalism and such, and half-truths. He tries to blur the line between righteousness and sin by surrounding you with evil influences that increase your tolerance for sin.
The Spirit conveys God's mercy, forgiveness and acceptance, and he gives them the desire and power to do God's will ( Jn 3:16; 1Co 15:10; Php 2:13; 1Ti 1:15-16). The whole process and progress of the Christian life, from beginning to end, is dependent on this grace.
(1) God gives a degree of grace as a gift ( 1Co 1:4) to unbelievers (i.e., those who do not yet know or have not accepted Christ) so that they may be able to respond to his message and mercy and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ ( Eph 2:8-9; Tit 2:11; 3:4).
(2) God gives grace to believers (i.e., those who choose to accept and follow Christ) so they can be "set free from sin" (Ro 6:20, 22), "to will and to act according to his good purpose" ( Php 2:13; cf. Tit 2:11-12; see Mt 7:21, note on obedience as a gift of God's grace). God's grace also helps believers to pray ( Zec 12:10), to grow in their relationship with Christ ( 2Pe 3:18) and to communicate the message about Christ to others (Ac 4:33; 11:23).
(3) God's grace must be desired, pursued and accepted ( Heb 4:16). Some of the ways by which God's grace is received are: studying and obeying God's Word ( Jn 15:1-11; 20:31; 2Ti 3:15); hearing and responding to the preaching of the gospel-the "good news" about Christ ( Lk 24:47; Ac 1:8; Ro 1:16; 1Co 1:17-18); praying ( Heb 4:16; Jude 1:20); fasting, which is going without food for a period of time to focus on spiritual matters through prayer ( Mt 4:2; 6:16); worshiping Christ ( Col 3:16); being continually filled with the Holy Spirit ( Eph 5:18); and participating in the Lord's Supper, or "communion" (Ac 2:42; see Eph 2:9, note on how grace works).
(4) God's grace can be resisted and rejected ( Heb 12:15), received in vain and without lasting effect ( 2Co 6:1), set aside and disregarded ( Gal 2:21) and abandoned by people who, at one time, truly believed and accepted Christ ( Gal 5:4).
