Adam knew his wife. Is it not what marriage for? It is not as simple as it seems on paper. Marriage is also a transaction between two parties. Disobeying God brought sin into the world.Sin lying at the door created a no man's land where knowing good and evil without the truth ripens into a bitter fruit. A proof to which is the familiar eleventh commandment. "Thou shalt not be found out" It is how Satan has set the line of least resistance before man. Peer pressure is yet another and envy as we shall see from the manner the career of Abel and Cain would show.
Man and woman were like gods in a manner of speaking but without the glory of God as their covering they were adrift from the wisdom, which came from heaven. So their carnal knowledge spelled a certain loss. "And knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." By sin they came short of the fount of godly gifts they could freely access.. Adam as a representational figure came short of the glory of God. "The Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken."(3:23)
" For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Ro.3:23-NKJV). Adam was conscious of his nakedness and without the glory of God his knowledge was not adequate to safeguard the future prospects of his two sons. His carnal knowledge ever since would leave nothing but misery and union of man and woman up against mounting challenges, not to mention the dysfunctional families. Adam knew Eve and she knew that Cain was a gift from God. But with what would they fill his head? Without glory of God and access to wisdom from heaven he settled for an alternate reality. He took the easy way out by following his father's occupation. Abel instead went on to be the keeper of sheep.
