    Matt.6:8-13 The Lord's Prayer (1 of 2)

Again we find the use of conjunctive adverb in this verse:"After this manner therefore pray ye:" Here the emphasis is on faith. It is whosoever comes to God without exception it is enjoined. "or he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."(He.11:6) Having laid down the holiness of God, Jesus tells,"for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him."(6:8). Therefore faith is the foundation on which the heart of a believer serves him for a tabernacle. His faith and that of the risen Christ who is in the right hand of God being one, addresses thus, "Our Father which art in heaven" Our denotes the unity of purpose between the Petitioner and the Intercessor. Jesus promised us,"And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son./If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."( John 14:13-14)

    v.9 "Hallowed be thy name."

"And in his temple doth every one speak of his glory."(Ps.29:9b) Compare this with the Pharisee in the Parable. "The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican./ I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess." ( Luke 18:11-12) He was seeking his own glory at His cost.

v.10 "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." As mentioned in an earliest post it refers to his abiding life and seeking the state That God may be all in all. "And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all."(1 Co.15:28)

v.11 "Give us this day our daily bread."

The term 'agape' fits here since 'this day' refer the blessings of heaven before the worlds began, no matter whatever circumstance we are in the 'now'. Elijah by Kerith brook.

    Dear Bennymkje,

the Lord's Prayer is a wonderful outline for us to use when we come to the Father in prayer. We desire His glory and honor in all things, especially in the things we petition Him to fulfill in us and our lives. We acknowledge that all good things come from Him and with thankfulness, we glorify Him. We desire His will and the exceedingly greatness of His Kingdom to come to us on earth, which is described as such in Revelations with the coming of the New Jerusalem with God's throne among us. Heaven is brought to earth or better said, that Heaven and earth are joined in eternal peace, holiness, perfection, joy, love, and all the wonderful heavenly riches that we have in Christ Jesus. We long for that day. But in the mean time, we ask for our daily needs to be met by Him and for His cleansing from sin when we fail to live as Jesus lived and the setting aright of relationships in our lives that have been damaged by offenses, and to be delivered from the evil one who is always looking for an opportunity to pull us down into his evil misery and bondage.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever Amen.
