The Pharisees opposed Jesus for no other reason than that his doctrine stood directly contrary to their traditions. They were on a collision course which is highlighted in the feeding of the Four Thousand. First we shall note the backdrop and it is different from the previous miracle. Feeding Five Thousand took place in a desert place. Here in v.29 we read, "And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there." Similar to the backdrop of 'a mountain' as in the Sermon on the Mount. (5:1) This is not coincidence but the Spirit is laying bare their traditions were a smoke screen for their ignorance of God, a Spirit. Jesus represented the Power of the Spirit of God and his disciples were similarly held by the selfsame spirit. The key to understand this is however in 16:5-12.
Consequently skipping the miracle (15:29-39) we shall attend to what Jesus describes as the doctrine of the Pharisees."Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees."(16:12).
Another clue we have here is in this verse, "Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way."(v.32) Jesus asserts here to indicate the significance of being fed of the doctrine of God represented in the number Three. The term Trinity recalls that man is made "in our image, after our likeness." Jesus as the word become flesh made it imperative. Cf. "David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years." Thirty years (3x10) represent the man as a stand in for the Son. (2 Sa.5:4)
