    Trust and Obedience

    There is no single Bible verse that talks about trusting and obeying; the song however is very scriptural and sums things up nicely for a proper attitude in our Christian walk. John H. Sammis was said to have written the lyrics in 1887 after a D.W. Moody outreach; someone else wrote the music a year before. Original lyrics:

    )

    When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,

    What a glory He sheds on our way!

    While we do His good will, He abides with us still,

    And with all who will trust and obey.

    Refrain:

    Trust and obey, for there's no other way

    To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

    Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,

    But His smile quickly drives it away;

    Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,

    Can abide while we trust and obey.

    Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,

    But our toil He doth richly repay;

    Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,

    But is blessed if we trust and obey.

    But we never can prove the delights of His love

    Until all on the altar we lay;.

    For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,

    Are for them who will trust and obey.

    Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,

    Or we'll walk by His side in the way;

    What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;

    Never fear, only trust and obey.

    Easier said than done; of course. The ultimate test was given with Christ in submitting as part of the Divine Godhead to the Father's will that He take on the punishment on the cross for what we deserved as the sinless Lamb of God. I just saw a murder mystery where like in the case with a few others forgiveness was offered to a murderer that confessed and who showed remorse himself for his actions. How much like we were like those killers because; as another well known hymn stated it was our sin that held Him there (How Deep the Father's Love by Stuart Townend). This was written in 1995 and shows; thankfully that decent Christian music still exists in our time.

    Agape.
