From Chapter 7:1 on, Paul is answering their questions. His response in chapter 11 seems to be about the channel of life from God, through Adam, and then through Jesus. Verses 3 thru 9 describe the order as God, Adam, and then woman at creation, but Adam was not by a woman. Verse 11 changes this order as both genders now being involved, when Jesus is the channel for God's life to us. A woman was needed for the messiah to identify with fallen humanity. Also, the channel for the new life from God was a male. So, "in the Lord" of verse 11, gives the setting for the explanation in verse 12, that both genders were needed to again connect the two worlds. Some modern versions twist verses 10 and 16 to create a smooth thought flow. This is wrong and unnecessary since Paul is presenting two different situations. Paul's message is Jesus, rather than worldly religion. See chapter 2:2.
