I believe this is just an over sight there’s too many reason for Dan and Ephraim's names to appear here Joshua 14:4 are some of those reasons in one verse Josh. 14:4 For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance. and
Deut. 10:9 Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him.
Possibly John the Divine felt he heard this wrong; in considering Joseph and Levi and who they are in Israel that their names could not have been meant to be lift out here. Even though Manasseh and Ephraim are Josephs’ name mentioned twice and Levi; the LORD is his inheritance.
We as men can’t consider Dan and Ephraim where left out because of sin; that finger points in to many directions to single anyone out. The 144,000 are like unto the men in the days of Kings, men who have not bow their knee to Baal.
