A question is raised as how is it possible that a person has his life spared and this was prophisised by another and yet something so seriouse can be forgotten. Well the scriptures we read are not only there so we can marvel at the greatness of our fore fathers, they are there to educate us through their mistakes. Joseph after saying that all he says comes not from him but from G-d stangely enough slipped up. He said to the chief buttler not to forget him. He placed his fate in the hands of a mortal. G-d punished him by leaving Joseph in the prison another two years and it was the Lord he caused the buttler to forget.
