One of the greatest lessons i learnt from the life of Abraham in this Chapter is 'perfect Christian love '. Even though his nephew, Lot was greedy and ungrateful by choosing first before his benefactor, very few people would have done what Abraham did afterwards when Lot fell into trouble and was captured. At the personal expense and risk to his own life, Abraham went to war on behalf of Lot to rescue him. No wonder the Bible says 'faith works by love ' Galatians 5 6 , and no wonder Abraham was called the father of faith. True faith indeed works by love. It was the same kind of love that Jesus disclosed in Matthew 5 48 'Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. ' As Christians, we must never repay evil with evil but repay evil with good. This is possible as we yield totally to God on a daily basis and are consecrated to God continually. I wonder the kind of great revival that would happen in our local bodies of Christ if we start practising this kind of divine love Abraham exhibited towards his nephew Lot.
