In saying they 'd be like the gods little g Satan was saying they 'd be like he was. Lucifer 's desire to overthrow God led to his downfall. If he, through his lies, could cause Eve to believe his word rather than God 's word he would gain lordship over them. He did, for they immediately died in the spiritual sense. I believe, however, they repented, for someone taught Abel about God and that He should be worshipped. This lie has filtered down through each generation since then. Those who never sense a need to repent and come to God through the cross are mentioned in Gen 3 15 when God tells the serpent that there will be enmity between his seed and Eve 's seed. Satan 's seed, like Satan ever want to acquiesce to God 's lordship. Cain wouldn 't and displaying the enmity between Satan 's seed and Eve 's seed all who would come to God through faith , Able. Cain killed Able and remained, like his father "the god ", Satan. This is why it is a small "g " and plural Satan and his cohorts, countless demons.
