The history of Eunuchs in this time frame is interesting. When young men were defeated in war and chosen to be taken to the court of the king as advisors first they were castrated. This helped assure the king that no matter how smart they were, they could not overthrow the king and set up a dynasty of their own. Daniel was chosen for his intelligence, the king wanted to know all that Daniel knew. The kings meat and wine are his laws and beliefs. The law in place was that Daniel should be made an eunuch. That is why a eunuch was placed to instruct him, to carry out the law. Daniel was blessed by God and was able to convince the king that he could be a servant of the king without this punishment. Therefore his flesh was fatter, meaning no flesh was missing, than other servants of his kind.
