I think that James is saying that when we resist temptation we are taming the flesh. The psalmist says, "that for in the flesh lies no good thing. " Once we have tamed the flesh a crown of life is our reward. We are being tried, or tested in other words to see how much we have grown in our faith. We are over comers when we resist temptation. Jesus resisted temptation in the wilderness, though his flesh was screaming for relief, in other words for sustenance. He did not bough down to its desires. He also did not bough down to filthy lucre, the offer of riches. He overcame, so we must also overcome.Though we may fail some of these trials, we are still under grace, and it is sufficient. Oh the beauty of the power of the blood covering. We can 't fail in the eyes of God but this should not prevent us from striving to do our best to overcome all temptations.
