I can remember as a new Christian only being familiar with the new testament I wondered about the usefulness of the old testament. As you begin to read the old testament you soon realize the Bible is a whole entity, and you understand cant the new testament without a clear understanding of the old, especially when it comes to the person of Christ and the prophecies concerning Him. I think of Genesis, 3: 15 where we find the first promise after the fall of a redeemer, or Genesis 3:21 where God provides the first blood sacrifice for man. In Genesis we see Abraham ready to slay Isaac his only son and it reads God will provide himself a lamb. When you visit the new testament we see John the Baptist saying Behold the lamb of God John 1:36, that this is God 's Lamb to take away the sins of the world. All through the old testament we see the suffering Messiah. A simple reading of Psalms 22 and you see Jesus on the cross 22:16 they pierced my hands and my feet. Some of the very conversations of this chapter were recorded in the Gospels 22:1 My God My God why hast thou forsaken me. Or 22vs 8. Then you move to Isaiah 53, He was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him. This is only a fraction of the things that Jesus must of told these two men as they walked to Emmaus.
