I know people want to receive God 's blessings, but giving to God to receive a blessing from God is not the correct attitude of the heart. Also, Malachi 3:8 is speaking to the priests keeping and stealing the tithes from the Levites who had already collected them from the cities of Judah. Only the priests were allowed to stock the storehouses. This is not any easy verse to understand without reasonable knowledge of Levitical Law and the testimony of other minor prophets- Nehemiah in particular. To keep adding to my argument, there is no tithing required in the New Covenant- only in the old the "Law " or Mosaic law . The Apostle Paul clearly stated we are no longer under the law but grace Ro 6:14 . Jesus taught about cheerful giving and giving as a responsibility to support the church as the Lord leads.
