Sandra, good question. It is a little confusing from Joseph 's conversation with his brothers and their conversation with Pharoah what he was asking them to say to Pharoah and what they said to Pharoah. It appears to me what the Holy Ghost is saying is what Matthew Henry said in his commentary of this chapter do not be ashamed of your occupation. Mr. Henry said its better to be a credit to a mean post-or occupation than a shame to a nigh one. It Seems to me according to the Scripture you quoted here that the Hebrews and the Egyptian both called sheep cattle as well in those days. Note Pharoah 's comments after Joseph 's brothers told him their occupation as shepherds 47:6 "the land of Egypt is before thee in the best of the land make thou father and thou brethren dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity-or any hard workers among your brothers- then make them rulers of my cattle. Therefore, it seems that Pharoah himself had some sheep somewhere in his kingdom because they made it clear to him that they were shepherds. God bless us all and also in the understanding of his Word. Glory be to God in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!
