Stephen was preaching to the nation and Jesus Christ went from His seated position Mark 16:19 to standing in Acts 7:55 ready to come back. This did not take Him by surprise but it was a legitimate offer and the gospel of the kingdom of heaven was preached to the Jews first Rom 1:16 and then with the salvation of Paul the apostle to the Gentiles came the Gospel of the Grace of God.
