The thing to realize is verse 13 is the subject and that is "asleep" or where are the dead. They are alive with Christ and will be returning with Him at the 7th Trump. The trump og God is the last Trump. Paul wrote in colloquial greek or and spoke in it and about 8 other languages. He was a very educated person. Most of his writting were done with them that were with him because he was half blind but at the end of his books you will notice that he signs off himself and mentions that he signs off large writting. In Hebrew 12:1 you notice this colloquial greek when he is speaking of a great crowd of people and says great cloud of witnesses which is the same cloud in 1 Thess 4 16,17. All are changed at the same time in a twinkle of an eye at the 7th Trump when Christ returns to set His Kingdom up.
