Getting into trouble a lot is not an ok thing if you really enjoy the bible. Knowing what the bible teaches makes you wise and will help you in this world. Nicodemus came to Jesus by night probably because he didn't want others to know he was there. He believed Jesus was from God but wanted to know more, like you. Jesus spoke to him in a way that was hard for him to understand when he said he must be born again. Nicodemus tried to reason it out but couldn't get it. Jesus then spoke to him in a word picture. That is, he explained to him something he was familiar with, the wind, and said born again is like that. "How can these things be?", said Nicodemus and that shows he still didn't understand. Jesus then goes on to remind Nicodemus about the serpent in the wilderness that Moses held up before the Israelites. Now Nicodemus knew that Moses was told by God to make a serpent and put it on a pole which he held up so anyone in the camp of Israel could see. There were snakes biting people and they were dying. God said that if anyone bit would look at the serpent Moses held up, they would not die. Jesus then said that the Son of man would also have to be lifted up. Nicodemus was being told by Jesus that Jesus would be crucified and that those people who would look at him and believe that he died for them, would be saved from eternal death. Nicodemus still didn't get it yet, but, after Jesus died, these words would have a different meaning to Nicodemus and I think he became a believer and was saved. In chapter 19 he helps another believer take the body of Jesus to a tomb and dresses the body with linen and spices to protect and preserve it. I think it was after Jesus rose from the dead that the understanding of who Jesus was and what he did was clear to those who listened to him and loved him. He died that they/we might have life. He paid for our sins on the cross and rose again from the dead to demonstrate that God the father accepted his death as payment for sin. We are all bitten by sin and should die, but if we see Jesus lifted up for us, we can live.
