Mark Diffin, thankfully Matthews credibility is fully intact. It is commonly accepted that many of the OT prophecies have dual meanings (what some refer to as "telescoping prophecies"). Matthews comment in v 23 has been a little more troubling for some but not many. Matthew may have been referring in some way to the OT Nazarite vow. A Nazarene or one that has vowed a Nazarite vow.
