    Wesley's Notes for Ephesians 1:17

1:17 That the Father of that infinite glory which shines in the face of Christ, from whom also we receive the glorious inheritance, # Eph 1:18|, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation - The same who is the Spirit of promise is also, in the progress of the faithful, the Spirit of wisdom and revelation; making them wise unto salvation, and revealing to them the deep things of God. He is here speaking of that wisdom and revelation which are common to all real Christians.

People's Bible Notes for Ephesians 1:17

Eph 1:17 That. This introduces the things for which he prayed God in their behalf. The Father of glory. The source of all spiritual glory. Give unto you the Spirit of wisdom. A gift of the Spirit. See PNT " 1Co 12:8". Divine wisdom works wisdom in believers. And revelation in the knowledge of him. The Spirit that reveals a knowledge of God and spiritual mysteries. This Spirit would enable them to better comprehend the "mystery" of God, the divine plans for human redemption in a better knowledge of him.

What shall I do to be saved ? Believe in Jesus, repent yourself, and be baptized! It's as simple as Paul taugh the prisioner's chief.

We are saved by faith in the mrits of Jesus's blood, and a repented heart to receive the Holy Spirit, through God's Mercy.

Like a mariage's cerimony, the baptism has a spiritual symbolism, and is a public recognition of God's acceptance of church's authority, to accept a new member of Jesus's spiritual body, which is the believers's communion.

the santificaton is the work of The Holy Spirit, through faith and by walking on The way that Jesus walked, folowing His exemple. There's no man who doesn't sin, that's why we allways remember, Jesus continuous intercession in Heaven, and repent ouselves again, repair and reemburse the one we ofended and ask God's forgiveness, resist devil's temptation, through prayer, nourishing ourselves on the word of God, and keep an humble, calm and undivided heart towards God, and fasting often, because this kind of demons, as Jesus advertised His disciples, aren't expelled unless we resist with all our strengh, effort and commitment to obey God's word, and focus our mind on the submission to The Holy Spirit. We can overcome sin, only by these means appointed by The Divine Master. men! As Jesus's disciples, we are suposed to persist walking on a close fellowship and togetherness with Jesus, through the assistance of The Holy Spirit and angels's ministry, in believers's comunion, fighting the Faith's good fight, to remain on Jesus's good works and exemple, by faith on Jesus's FAITH. ALELUIA! Maranata!

David R. Longerbeam In the context of this great Epistle of Ephesians is written to the faithful in Christ Jesus

who endeavor to walk by the spirit as much as is in them to do and walk in the great Agapeo or renewed mind

love of God. God can only give spiritual wisdom and revealed knowledge of His Son as we walk in that love of

God in Christ because it is literally revealed knowledge given by God through Christ who lives in us. As we put

the scriptures on in the mind and walk in that faith of Christ he shows us more and more spiritually as needed.

look at Ephesians 3:16-21 and have some inspirational fun. Look at the amount of Times IN Christ is used in

This epistle that's how God views us spiritually. Ephesians 1:3 we have already been blessed with all spiritual

blessings in heavenlies, that gets the spiritual blood pumping. As believers in His Eyes were spiritually perfect!

What do you think Paul was referring to in vs 17 ch 1
  • Rick - In Reply on Ephesians 1 - 3 years ago
Hi David Ephesians is the greatest revelation to the church, when you work it there is no reproof or correction only doctrine or right believing it is the pinnacle of spiritual understanding in the Body of Christ.

Yes me too. Vs 17 strikes home then 18. So how many people actually know the Spirit Of Truth? Who knows in there heart,

that your thought life, is your prayer life. How many people know to keep there thoughts on how to declare the good news about Jesus Christ reconciling us back to Our Heavenly Father Grace. We are the children of the Living God. Jesus said let this mind be in you. The same mind that is Christ. Well what was on Jesus's mind ? What did he DECLARE? That he is the way the truth and the life. So the new creature that we are in Christ is focusing are thoughts on the Lord always. This is are spiritual LIFE! We will resist are carnal minds and forsake the Old ways of thought ,and put on Christ! Paul said I think God I die daily. He was referring to his old ways. Bringing every thought into captivity. Let this mind be in YOU! Sing to Jesus sing aloud a new song. My conscience has witness in the Holy Ghost. The love of God is shed abroad my heart by the Holy Ghost that is given unto us! His spirit bears witness with my spirit that I am his child. Ephesians 1 vs 17, 18 Also be as I am because iam as you should be. Meditate day and night pray without stopping. Seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened. Do the Deeds that modify the body, that is prayer and fasting. Walk the walk and talk the talk. Teach and preach the Good news every where you GO! Repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at your hand so it must be within your reach, yes reach out to Jesus , know that he is reaching out to you. And God will make his aboade with you, we are the temple of the Lord, so keep his comments, fight against the devil and he will flee,, put on thee whole body of armor,, tell you evil thought to stop. When they will not stop. Make your drive to Jesus and star preaching Roman's 5,6,7 8-12 . We are vessels of mercy preaching the Truth about Jesus Christ giving his life to die on a cross for you to reconcile us into God's Grace FOREVER God's Property. Love ya

Dear Frances. U know when u are a baby, u cant absolute read att all. When u grow up u will understand. Some like it differently. I like capitalized, becouse i want too give Him the extra greace. And when it comes to the devil i dont. I see some scripture dont use capitalized att all, when they speak of the Lord Him Self. And sometime it looks like it mixed up. It can be confusing. Some scripts have a red under subtitle or Jesus writing in red. Or everything He saids is in red. I dont want too read that at all. Its all about whom who have done the translation. Good luck reading the Holy Scripture. God bless u.

I remember one Frances i met in Jerusalem, he wantet too go to UK.
  • Frances on Ephesians 1 - 3 years ago
Why in the bible are all references to God not capitalized? Sometimes when referring to God the text is "HIM" , and in other text it's simply "him" or "he".

    Hi Geoffrey.

    Part 3.

Purchased Possession seated in Heavenly places.

Revelation 5:7-13. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast ( REDEEMED US TO GOD BY THY BLOOD OUT OF EVERY KINDRED, AND TONGUE, AND PEOPLE, AND NATION; )

And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

    And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

NOTE: ALL BEFORE THE GREAT TRIBULATION!!

    God bless.

    Hi Geoffrey.

    Part 2.of 3.

Now that we have been loosed from the curse of the law, We take these verses in consideration.

NOW READ "ALL" OF ROMANS 7.

It clears up some of the trouble people have with Romans 7.

.......... Romans 7:2. For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is LOOSED FROM THE LAW OF HER HUSBAND.........

    Also.

Colossians 3:3-4. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

    Also

Ephesians 2:5-6. Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

And hath raised us up together, and made us SIT TOGETHER IN HEAVENLY PLACES IN CHRIST JESUS:

There's many others but look ahead to Revelation where Christ Claims his possession!!!

Revelation 5:1-6. And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.

And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

    See part 3.

S Spencer That word sealed is the word sphragizo long o which means to put on a royal untouchable and irreversable stamp on the complete work accomplished. Just an addition to what you shared.
  • S Spencer - In Reply on Ephesians 1 - 3 years ago
    Hi Geoffrey.

Ephesians 1:13-14. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

This is a deep saying here!

First we heard the Gospel of our salvation.

    We believed it.

And right away we were SEALED with the Holyspirit of promise.

Which is the EARNEST/"DOWN PAYMENT" of our inheritance.

UNTIL the redemption of the PURCHASED POSSESSION!!! Unto the praise of his glory.

Let's look into this, First of all we were sealed with the Holyspirit of promise! "Eternal security "

We are sealed "WITH" the Holyspirit of promise, Which is the Down-payment of our inheritance. UNTIL the redemption of the PURCHASED possession.

Jesus prayed in Mathew 26:39-45. three times if there be any other way take this cup from him. "And the Father never relieved him from this burden, So the price of this redemption, and the purchased possession was the highest of value!!

And It was the blood of Christ that bought us. HE WILL REDEEM HIS PURCHASE. You have been SEALED "Providing that in your heart you truly believed " This puts

    John 10:28. in mind.

    NOTE:

Acts 20:28. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath PURCHASED WITH HIS OWN BLOOD.

Here's What we were redeemed from:

Galatians 3:13. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

The law brought death, Paul said when the law came he died. There is nothing to add to what Christ paid to redeem us, If so God would have answered his prayer.

And "IF" you have you have been SEALED you "ARE" barring fruit because you have been given the Holyspirit.

    God bless.

Geoffrey This is in regard to the receiving of the gift if holy spirit of Christ in you we have been sealed by God I.E. bought, redeemed, purchased, verse 14 which is the earnest the pledge or the certainty until the redemption, the word redemption is a loosing away in other words when we are taken up at Christ return for the Church which his is body, Ephesians 3:6 That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs of the same body, that body is the body of Christ. It is the mystery that was Hid in God from the foundation of the world. Good Stuff God Bless

  • GRACE_ambassador {ChrisE} - In Reply on Ephesians 1 - 3 years ago
Precious friend, Naresh. You do realize reading and studying are two different things? I would suggest "reading" to be 3-5 (or more, IF you wish...) chapters a day and that will take about a year to "read" the Whole Bible (KJV). This is good so that you can "...live By EVERY Word That Proceedeth Out Of The Mouth Of God." ( Deuteronomy 8:3) ( Matthew 4:4) ( Luke 4:4)

For life-long "studying" I recommend starting With: "What God Is Doing Today, Under GRACE, And Specifically WHO HE IS, And HIS Salvation For us," found in Romans Through Philemon, KJV, prayerfully And Carefully, and study According To The Following Bible "study" Rules: ( 1 Corinthians 14:40) ( 2 Timothy 2:15) ( Deuteronomy 4:2) ( Deuteronomy 12:32) ( Proverbs 30:5-6) ( Revelation 22:18-19 KJB!) ( Acts 17:11) ( Isaiah 28:10) ( 2 Timothy 3:16-17) ( 2 Timothy 3:16-17) ( 1 Corinthians 2:13)

The Best "Interpretive" Commentary On The Bible Is The BIBLE Itself!:

NEVER ever interpret The Many Plain Scriptures by the "few" difficult verses, But, ALWAYS Always Interpret the few Obscure/Difficult/Dubious verses By ALL Of The MANY Plain and Clear Passages Of God's Pure And Holy Word!

    Finally:

"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do ALL to The Glory Of God!" ( 1 Corinthians 10:31)

Naresh, hope this helps on your reading/studying journey, and saves you from a lot of Confusion of the enemy...

Hi, I am a regular church goer for the past 4 years. I want to seriously study the bible from genesis to revelation. It is tough for me to understand the word of god. Which book in the bible should I start reading and following the rest. I like the KJV authorised version initially very tough, but I can manage. Please can you advise what would be plan of study to complete the bible.

    Steve,

Ephesians! I think of superlatives like Eph 3:20-21 Now unto him that is able to do EXCEEDING, ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Here, the opening verses 3-14 enumerate spiritual blessings IN CHRIST.

Verse 6 has this phrase, "To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted IN THE BELOVED."

It ties into vss 12 & 14 "the praise of His glory."

This is all about the richness and vastness of God's marvelous Grace. Grace that He has bestowed on unworthy sinners. Think of it: He does NOT give us what we rightly deserve AND He freely gives us what we in no way deserve. He did not do that for the angels that sinned. This is Grace that glorifies God, a God that keeps the promises He has made over the millennia. Later Paul explains the mystery (used 6 times) that is now revealed to the principalities and powers through the church! Eph 3:9-10.

There's a song that my mother sang many decades ago that ends with these lines:

Holy. Holy. Is what the angels sing

And I expect to help them make the courts of heaven ring

But when I sing redemption's story, angels fold their wings,

For angel never felt the joy that my salvation brings.

    Hope this helps.
