    this is amazing, that people maybe suffering just for this reason an not know it, I still want to learn more, cause I find it hard to believe that God would hold the ignorant so accountable, christians are so harsh, they are the worst to show mercy, so im going to take the stance of not guilty til not saved,so this is more for christians, an i'll keep praying for the unsaved an love them to the Lord. I want to add that its christians that have learned what real mercy is,sometimes this takes many years, an we never stop learning, ever

    This verse shows that God does not approve of the use of idols in worship. This was a very specific command that many choose to ignore until this very day.

    Does that mean that all art is evil? I'm not trying to provoke any resentment. I just want a deeper understanding to know if art or having art (that you don't worship) is a sin. It kind of seems like it is.

    (This is my response to Prince's comment dated 9/12/2013 at 5:32am on Exodus Chapter 20 about verse 14):

    Regarding Exodus 20:14, the commandment was ABSOLUTE because there was no exemption to that rule that says, "this commandment is for married and youth only". Therefore this commandment was given by God for all people to obey. It is written in Matthew 5:28 "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart". IMAGE, just by looking to lust after someone you have committed adultery already in your heart. The same was written in 2Peter 2:9 and 14, "The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children". So, the commandment applies to all since NO exemption was stated in all those verses I quoted.

    Yes Saturday is the Sabbath. Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy. Mean that we should not work or buy or sell on the Sabbath. I agree that the 2nd coming of Christ is much closer than any of us know. So we should keep the Lords commandments and follow Jesus gospel.
  • Ingrid on Exodus 20:10 - 11 years ago
    a Sabbath is a holy day, a feast by God's design! a sabbath, no capitalized s (S), is the 7th day of the week, our saturday! sunday, the name itself refers to the Romans and their fascination with the pagan Mithras culture, very similar to christianity. it is the 8th day or first of the week! it also is not the day our lord and saviour rose from the dead because according to scripture he rose after 3 days and being buried at the end of the day,maybe around 6 p.m. he mathematically had to rise in the evening! the lord's day will always be the sabbath and not what the early roman chu8rch fabricated with constantine, a mithras worshipper. your choice who you follow, God and scripture, or your manmande traditions and man?

    Christ is coming after the war in Syria or a bit later when the arab dogs will try to start a campaign against Israel. It's clear esp. when reading Ezekiel 28:7 Behold, therefore I will bring strangers against thee...and they shall draw their sword against the beauty of thy wisdom and shall defile thy brightness.
  • Jakenya on Exodus 20:4 - 11 years ago
    We don't have any image of what is in heaven; therefore, we should not guess about any image in heaven. By sculpturing an earthly image, it is evident that we are worshiping other gods, and that is subjecting ourselves to God's wrath. We are to worship God uncoditionally and with no assumptions.
  • Brian jama on Exodus 20 - 11 years ago
    I think God gave these commandment for our benefit,so let us just follow them as it is.if God says jump we usual say how high.let just do them incld the sabbath observance.may our Lord Jesus Christ through Holy spirit leads us.
  • Rev. Autrey on Exodus 20 - 11 years ago
    "Thou shall have no other Gods before me." Jesus is the personality through whom God was speaking to the people. We know this is true because of what Paul said about him in 1 Corinthians 10:2-5:"As followers of Moses, they were all baptized in the cloud and the sea. And all of them ate the same miraculous food, and all of them drank the same miraculous water. For they all drank from the miraculous rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ.

    Then it says this about Jesus: "Yet, after all this, God (in the person of Jesus) was not pleased with most of them, and he destroyed them in the wilderness." This means that Jesus will not save anyone who does not recognize him as God. This is true no matter how serious they are, or how much emotion they display. Satan knows that only God can die for the sins of man, and anyone who denies this fact, can't be saved. That's why Paul in Titus 3:4 calls Jesus "God our Savior."

    If you want to know more along this line, please as Jesus to help you, and he will. He is able and willing to save anyone who come to him in true repentance. As he said in the Sermon on the Mountain, "God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God."

    As a note: The role of the Father in God is to direct his affairs, and the role of the Holy Spirit is to inspire us. But it is always Jeses who saves!

    God gave us these commands out of Love so that we can live a simple life set free from troubles. If we were to follow the 10 commandments, life would be so much easier for us all. LIKE I say BIBLE Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth.

    What day is the Sabbath? the Sabbath is the 7th day, which is Saturday. Sunday being the 1st day of the week Saturday the 7th. Not only for the Jews, the Sabbath provided for man at creation in Genesis before the Jews were a chosen people. The Sabbath is for all Commandment keepers of God. also read Revelation, Christ is coming back for those who Keep the Commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ

    @Clint,
    Can you be more specific? Of course we all want to make a point to underline our own belief. The question is: Does that match what the Bible teaches?
  • Bro. Daniel FC on Exodus 20 - 11 years ago
    @Ed,
    Exodus 20:26, “Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon”. You say, “I believe this verse speaks about the building of pyramid shaped temples which were very common at the time, not only in Egypt. Usually the place of worship (altar/temple) was at the top of the structure”. An altar was considered a sacred place, on which an innocent life of an animal was offered to God, symbolizing the ultimate sacrifice of that of “the Lamb of God”, or Jesus, who would take away the sin of the world. The reason for a “step-less” altar is to avoid exposing the nakedness of the person bringing the sacrifice, not necessarily the priests only. However, the Levite Priests had to wear special attire. “And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach. And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die...”, Exodus 28:42, 43. A typical size altar made of stone would be 36”H X 48” X 48”. The portable altar for the tabernacle was approx. 54”H X 90” X 90”. “And thou shalt make an altar of shittim wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits”, Exodus 27:1. The pyramids on the other hand, were huge and built to serve as abode to the Pharaoh in the “afterlife”. So, I don’t quite understand what do pyramids have to do with the altars?

    @Practice Banda,
    What day is the Sabbath? Exodus 20:8. The Sabbath is literally the 7th day of the week. It was the the last day of God's creational work, It is commandment that crowns the Creator's goodness towards mankind. A day that was sat apart from the other six (6) days in creation which were somewhat pair off, but the Seventh day (Sabbath) was somewhat alone, so the Most High God saw fit to pair the Sabbath off with mankind. Now the Sabbath means the day of Rest, in that man was to labor and achieve in all of his mental, physical endeavors in six (6) days, but this day is set apart for man's good that he could reframe from all of his work and commune with his Creator. Rest in his thinking and body and in his spirit, to be refreshed in whole. It is a day of worship and celebration with family and friends and giving of praise towards his Creator for the good pleasures in his life, and to understand the will of God through observing creation and reading and teaching his holy word. Contrary to some opinions, the Sabbath is a Commandment, not simple a precept or statute or law. This was God's own word handed down to be observed from generation to generation, until heaven is ushered in for eternity. This day has so many prophetic messages, it simply could be understood as a foreshadow of things to come, God is so loving that he sends the Sabbath to man through space and into to our present time, week after week. The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Praise be unto the Most High God.

    Did you know that JESUS is the Lord God who brought the Israelites from Egypt the house of bondage and gave them the ten commandments on Mount Sinai? The one who appeared in a burning bush to Moses?

    Don’t let Satan and his minions persuade you into believing the lies of people from other religions that come to bible sites and try to undermine GOD’S HOLY WORD! THEY DO NOT RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD OF TRUTH!
  • Kenny kgatla on Exodus 20 - 12 years ago
    Pravesh Hindra is right. I mean he is being truthful. But in John 14:16-17, the lord Jesus Christ said ...and I will pray the Father (God the Father), and he shall give you another comforter (advocate), that he may abide with you forever; even the spirit of truth, - the comforter here is identified as the holy spirit; God the Father, God the Son-Jesus Christ- and God the Holy Spirit. This is the fullness of the godhead and spirit-; whom the world cannot receive because it cannot see him or know him; for he dwells with you and shall be in you. Jesus was talking to his disciple when he said this. That is why nowhere in the holy bible it talks about the prophet Muhammad. Stand for the word of God.
  • Pravesh hindra on Exodus 20 - 12 years ago
    God is telling the truth when he says he is the Lord our God and that there is no other God beside him. His holy name is Jehovah. I grew up under Islam. Now I am converted to Christianity. At the mosque, we were taught that when Jesus Christ was about to depart for heaven, he said that he would send another comforter, and that comforter is supposedly the prophet Muhammad, which makes him the last prophet. This is not true at all. I’ve learned this recently. Jesus Christ made it clear in the book of John 1:16-17 that this comforter is the Holy Spirit and he lives in Christians, which means that he cannot be seen with optical eyes. And Muhammad is said to be a human being. What a lie, false doctrine.
