Dominion seems to have basically the same meaning no matter where you look.
    Webster's definition; : supreme authority : sovereignty
from Old French, from Latin dominium ownership, from dominus master
    Hebrew definition; rule, dominion, realm.

So it seems to me God has given man complete control over the earth including animals, birds, fish, reptiles, etc.
  • Maureen on Genesis 1:26 - 12 years ago
The words, rule, dominion, and subjection have all been used in various bibles but I can never find a true meaning. Were all the other living creatures supposed to work for humans or was a relationship of looking over them and providing any needs that they may have? I know at the beginning no one killed or ate animals so it seem to me there was more of a companionship role like we have pets today.

This is an affirmative statement, it must be accepted to gain any understanding of God and what his intentions for creation are, God is saying, in the beginning God DID create the heaven and the earth. Why, how and all other questions must start with the belief of this verse, or we cannot communicate to our hearts what God is revealing. As a child must trust the word of his parents and rest in that trust, likewise I must trust this verse completely and base my understanding of the Bible in the fact, God DID it!

  • Petwaydorothy m. on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
I enjoy all the answers because I used to be ashamed to ask questions, but my 2 deacons told me that no question is a stupid. Now I must read every day to understand; I love reading Genesis and learning about the beginning.
  • Blessed64 on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
I experience and feel scripture as the Holy Spirit fills my heart and soul; don't think much during this time; just do the will of God. Christians think too much with their own minds - instead of the Mind of Christ.
  • Imogen on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
    I love the Old Testament.
  • Mas on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
    Hi Dylan,
In fact there are not 2 creations of man (and woman) in the book of Genesis, but one which took place in Genesis 1:27. God then created them male and female in His own likeness.
Now in Genesis 2, God did not create man the second time, but just formed man (body), because what man’s body is made of was already created when God created the heavens and earth, Genesis 2:7.
Which means Genesis 2:7 just completes Genesis 7:26-28 where God created the spiritual side of man, which creation no one can explain; yet in Genesis 2:7, God gives a body to that spiritual man, a body God formed from already existing natural elements. But that was simultaneous, it is only the count that separate them.
    God bless you.

Hi guys, we're so blessed we're here because we're made by God. God created each one of us as special so treat everyone as special. God loves us so much, so love one another; we're created like Him, so it's pretty nice if we live like Him. The LORD bless everyone. Lovelots

  • Thomas mbogora on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
Why did God create the world?
  • Jones chisom on Genesis 1:1 - 12 years ago
God Himself is the author of life. He alone created the whole universe and by Him all things that exist were made. All things were made by Him and for Him. All things exist and were originated through Him.

  • Benson christian on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
I love how God made the day to be harder than the night. So God liked that.
  • Shay on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
I'm trying to prove my non-believer friend how God created everything out of nothing.
  • Stewart on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
I love the King James Bible. I Love the way passages flow when I read them out loud.
  • Brian on Genesis 1:11 - 12 years ago
You will find the seed of everything; animal, vegetable or mineral in itself. That’s a universal truth.
  • Margaret on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
    @Michael,
King James is supposed to give us the knowledge of the bible before it’s so refined. No matter how it was then in those days and helps us understand the translated Bible. It’s not about the English, it’s about your understanding of the bible because we don't even know what language God will use during judgment, and it won’t be how well you know English; but how well do you understand or did you understand the scriptures to make you a better man, because that very word is what will judge you in the day of judgment.
  • English on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
Michael isn't complaining about the Bible’s grammar at all. The poor grammar he is referring to is his own. "Sorry my punctuation and Grammar are not always there"; that is what he wrote. He clearly indicates WHAT grammar and punctuation (with the word "my") he is referring to. He has a clear understanding (I assume) that this is a religious site. Well, it seems you've misunderstood his question.
  • Hope on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
Actually I am just seeing this version of the bible for the first time, I was here comparing NIV to King James, and HCSB seeing what are the differences. I find they are all the same. NIV is made to help us understand King James, and HCSB is made for people to understand NIV and King James a lot easier. Sorry my punctuation and Grammar are not always there. The most important thing is God had these bibles made for us to learn about our creation, and how the end will come one day. How we will make mistakes and He will forgive. I love the bible the truest book ever made. God bless everyone. Ps. Me and My house, we will serve the Lord.
  • Doreen on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago

    What is the anointing?
  • Grace. on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
Dear Michael, would you please confine your comments to those upon the Scripture, rather than those upon other people's use of the English language. English may not be their Mother Tongue, or they may have learning difficulties. Thank you. God bless you.
  • MIchael on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
I am not talking about the Bible's grammar. The grammar in the comments is terrible.
  • Mas on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
    @Michael,
You are right, King James Bible grammar sounds terrible at the beginning, because it is 17th Century English.
But the more you read, the easier it becomes.
Please keep reading and you’ll get whole of it.
    God bless you.
