If I go to heaven, can I apply to be an Angel? Also, do they have an Angel's union ?
  • Uche on Genesis 16 - 11 years ago
Although he was not the promised child, Ishmael was still precious in God's sight and even though he had been revealed to be a child of wrath, God gave him a possession among his brethren. God loves us all: the good, the bad, the ugly and that's why he causes his rain to fall on the just and the unjust.

Christine I agree with you: leviticus 19:20 also potrays a similar scenerio though not the same as this one. But in the handmaid is saved from death because she was not free to make a choice. Our God is full of compelling comp***ion. .

I've thought much about Hagar. She was a servant/slave. Without her thoughts or feelings on the matter-She was forced to be marry and sleep with and then bare a child that was to be considered not hers but Sarah's. She was told this wouldn't be her child.... Imagine her pain. The Lord said' I have heard of thy affliction" Hagars response was I see him who sees me.

From this verse, God shows that our flesh is under our control, sometimes we fall in to temptations, we face difficulties physically, we fail to obey Him because we have given our flesh the whole of our attention. All that our worldly body requires, which is in war with our spiritual body is under our own control.

We should always revere God for he is God.
  • Davette Linville on Genesis 16:12 - 12 years ago
Doesn't this qualify to say that man is wild from his beginnings, like Isaiah18:2 says?
  • JB on Genesis 16 - 12 years ago
Keep reading about Ishmael...God goes on to say that he will lead a great nation.
Unfortunately, the same promise exists for Isaac.
Therefore, you see the "genesis" of the current struggle between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.
  • J.R. on Genesis 16 - 13 years ago
Not sure if anyone caught this, but this is a scripture that has been fulfilled, and to me it seems as if its one of the oldest. It said Ishmael would be a wild man, and everyones hand would be against his, and his against everyone else. If he really was the person that the arabs trace their lineage to...then this seems to be fufilled!
  • RALPH M. WATERS on Genesis 16 - 13 years ago
ANGEL OF THE LORD - ANGELS minister to the LORD - They are mentioned in this chapter, but as in the GARDEN, an ANGEL was ministering to the LORD in speaking with ADAM and EVE.
