    Great chapter

In 1. Samuel 15,22 we read: "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams." That was a hard test for Abraham. Abraham knew God, he had fellowship with God and trusted him. I think God s promises to him concerning Isaac gave him confidence in obeying God. Christians in general need to have a more personal relationship with God. We need to know "Him" and the power of "HIS" might. Knowing him makes life pleasant and enjoyable. We will be tested, but not above that which we can bear.

Isaac was not the blessing it was when Abraham offered Isaac that he provoked the blessing.

Mike Moses, God is good therefore he has never requested or excepted human sacrifice. Also, Isaac was not qualified to atone for the sin of all mankind only Jesus Christ is. Even though Abraham was tested and passed a great test by God Jesus Christ is the only qualified lamb of God that take away the sin of the world or mankind John 1:29. The one and only Son of God John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believe in him shall not parish but have everlasting life. God bless us all and in the understanding of his word. Bless the Lord with all my soul and all that is within me, Glory be to God. Amen.
  • Mike Moses on Genesis 22 - 9 years ago
I think that we as Christian have a lot to be thankful for, because God, still cared enough about us that he told Abraham not to harm his son, and I really do think that he stopped him because, had he had gone through with it, then the sacrifice of Jesus would not have meant anything to human kind, because Abraham would have shown that he had made the first loving sacrifice of his son. God is Good.
  • Robert karuri on Genesis 22 - 9 years ago
That its clear that you can only be blessed if you meet Gods conditions in life.
  • Marvin on Genesis 22:4 - 9 years ago
God performed a great miracle on the third day when Jesus was risen. In the kingdom of God great things happen on the third day and the number three is very significant in the Bible.
  • Timothy on Genesis 22 - 9 years ago
For those who can 't comprehend what is going on in this chapter. Remember GOD is not a man, he can 't lie, so you must think spiritual and not humanly.
  • Jose on Genesis 22 - 9 years ago
At sodoma episode abram was pleading for the love of another as is scriptural so deed Moises, but at his own son was his personal life who was at stake, so he gave it to the Lord because if his son isaac would have died abram 's life would be meaningless to him, so obedience is better than sacrifice, beside after calvary noone have to give any kind of flesh sacrifice, but prayer and fasting is our acceptable sacrifice!

I can see where you were going with this, and I struggled for a second. But look at it this way. You and your wife grow old, she well past menopause, that voice tells you that you will have a child, and BAM you have one. Next he tells you that he will destroy an entire city. Not a small city either, but a huge city unless he finds 10 righteous people there. That same voice demolishes the city. Rains fire and brimstone from the heavens, and turns a righteous person 's wife into a pillar of salt for disobeying. That 's like two Angels going to Vegas and find 4 righteous people. The rest want to rape them and the women. They get out of the city unscaved, and as soon as they do the city is demolished. All the while, this voice has done right by all and punished only the wicked. This is not just a voice in his head. This voice has shown action directly to him and all others that cared to take notice.
  • Lorenzo on Genesis 22 - 9 years ago
I find it interesting that Abraham risked the anger of God to bargain with him about the fate of a hypothetical number of righteous men who might have been in Sodom, but when God told him to kill his own son, he didn 't make a peep, just grabbed a knife and a stack of wood and got to it. I know the parallel--the savior has come in the line of Abraham because he was willing to serve up his son as a sacrifice to God, so God sent the Savior of the world in his line--but it still makes me ponder on it. Many times a year we read of parents who have slaughtered their children because "voices " or some such told them to. The problem is, if you hear a voice, or see an apparation, that tells you to kill your child, what do you do? How would Abraham KNOW this was God Almighty? Did he ask to see his driver 's license or badge? AND, one might think this is the last thing the source of all goodness, righteousness, justice, etc. etc. would ask of one. I believe in God, and I believe the bible is His word, at least in some sense, but this is one of the tougher things, at least for me, to swallow.

Genesis Ch. 22 So many Christians misunderstand some of the verses about Abraham offering up his son Isaac. Most Christians don 't catch the most vital points in these verses. Abraham always seems to be trying to please God. Abraham would have sacrificed Isaac. You should know he would have done it. It 's in verse 5. First read verse 3. Abraham told his two young helpers that carried wood for the burnt offering to stay back toward the bottom of the mountain and me and the lad Isaac may "God permit me say " we 'll go up yonder and worship and we will come back to you. MEANING if Abraham would have killed Isaac his son, he knew he would resurrect. And they both would come back to the two young helpers. The next vital point in this Chapter 22, Isaac willingly offered himself like Jesus Christ willingly offered Himself on the cross for the sinners today. MEANING God would be the One providing the Lamb to be sacrificed for the sins of the world, His only begotten Son. Amen
  • Franklin on Genesis 22 - 10 years ago
the verse 2 would have been considered by an ordinary follower of God as a joke on the part of God take your only son for sacrifice . it tells us how serious the real followers of God takes his words and infact the kind of heart Abraham was following God with. no wonder God described him as his friend. The attitude of Isaac towards the father is a clear evidence of the way the entire family understands God. Though the bible didn 't indicate the concern of Sarah yet one can see the total submissiveness of her towards Abraham given him the space to worship God in the right direction

Have you ever been going through a tough time, or couldn 't see your way out, and heard the saying, "God always has a Ram in the Bush " This is where it comes from. When you 've reached your limit and have used every resource possible to get you out of this situation, this scripture always reminds me that God is always in control. He always has a ram in the bush. God always has a way for us to escape whatever it is we 're going through. Put your trust in him and know for sure that he 's working it out!

  • Joseph on Genesis 22:13 - 10 years ago
A Ram being sacrificed showed the ending of a lineage the Ram would never lie with a ewe again This was a type and shadow of the lamb that was to come and by this Lamb the seed of Abraham would never end the only way for the seed to be like the sands of the earth is for burnt offerings to be done away with
  • Joseph on Genesis 22 - 10 years ago
What is interesting is the Type and Shadow of what was to come Vs 8 My son God will provide himself Jesus a lamb Vs 13 behind him a Ram caught Lambs were used in sacrifices not Rams Isaac was a shadow of the God lamb to come Abraham s words of faith made no need of a sacrifice for his son Abraham never varied from the hope of the Lamb to come a lamb in the bush would of made a mochery of his faith but a Ram showed that there would be a day that the lamb would no longer be sacrificed God Lamb the seed of Abraham exploded that night spiritually because he had seen the God Lamb Jesus Isaac says where is the lamb Jesus said If there is any other way for this cup to pass By faith of Abraham Isaac is saved By God Lamb Jesus the seed of Abraham is able to explode Halalujahhhhhhhhhhhh
  • Cecil Ryan on Genesis 22:8 - 10 years ago
The rebellion sin of man being so greivious could only be satisfied by God himself providing the sacrifice
  • Adam Riser on Genesis 22 - 10 years ago
Fascinating how one man s obedience affects an untold number of generations after him
  • BSP on Genesis 22:9 - 10 years ago
This verse shows Isaac's willing to do God's will. Isaac was a grown man at this time and he willingly let himself become a sacrifice. This shows tremendous faith and trust in his father and in Jehovah God.

HEB.11-NOW FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN; ABRAHAM WAS TRULY A MAN OF FAITH-GEN.22:5- HE HAD FAITH TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WERE COMING BACK TO THE MEN HE HAD LEFT.
  • Ahmad on Genesis 22:2 - 11 years ago
Isaac was never ever at any point Abraham's only son. His only son could be only Ishmael because Ishmael was born when Abraham was around 86 and Isaac was born when he was 99. This name Isaac has been added in the original text.
