Genesis 37is a great book in the bible to read
  • Lynn on Genesis 37 - 9 years ago
I believe Joseph shared his dreams out of wonderment over them not boasting. After all he was a type of Christ and not there to provoke his brothers to envy and hate.
  • Melissa Labbe on Genesis 37 - 9 years ago
Genesis 37 verse 25 and 27 Correct Spelling is Ishmaelites
  • Dewey J on Genesis 37 - 9 years ago
Chaligha, it seems that the Scripture is speaking of his brothers ' wrong doings and incorrect activities. God bless us all and also in the understanding of his Word. Praise God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!
  • Chaligha on Genesis 37:2 - 9 years ago
What are these bad reports. Can you mention them?
  • Dewey J on Genesis 37 - 9 years ago
    Lillian, Praise God, Amen!

Lorenzo, Jacob 's mistakes are his own we know but though it was wrong for him to favor Joseph over his other children their sin are their own because they all were grown men Ja. "But every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. I concur that all their sin worked out according to God 's ultimate plan Ro. 8:28 "all things work together for good for those who love the Lord. God bless us all and in the understanding of his Word. Glory be to God in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!
  • Lorenzo on Genesis 37 - 9 years ago
Jacob brought it about by openly favoring Joseph. Joseph didn 't help with the "one of these days, you guys will kiss the ground I walk upon " bit. BUT, KILLING your brother is a bit extreme for his merely being annoying. Lucky the brothers allowed their greed to overcome their envious blood lust. Once more, the unintended and unforeseen consequences of human venality is turned to good by God 's love.
  • Lilian on Genesis 37 - 9 years ago
Jesus is teaching us to be humble ourselves for whoever humbles himself will be praised. God has a thousand ways and he make a way when it seems there be no way. Our God is not small he is big God who is powerful and everything he have done are perfect from his mighty work of his hands. God is so good and we must thank Jesus for the blood he shed for us on the cross so that we will have life and abundance. God will lift us up as we are the child of the Living God. Thank you Jesus
  • Isaiah McCoy III on Genesis 37 - 9 years ago
The spirit of God was heavily upon Joseph as the evidence of the spirit was demonstrated by Joseph having the same dreams of being placed in authority, and by his attitude. Joseph was happy and full of joy, when his brethren were cruel and mean. Clearly, only by the spirit of God can that be done.
  • Patrise Jackson on Genesis 37 - 9 years ago
The story presented in chapter 37 speaks of a transitional position in God. The length of the coat is a sign that he could not work in the fields but it determined that there was another position a sign of liberation. The coat of many colors was the garmet of priesthood it was a perfectic of his purpose. Josephs transition in the pit was for his elevation. Joseph elevation was for Judas preservation his going through was the cause of someone else being preserved. Even though he was ripped of his garmet he still had the anointing that God had on his life that couldn 't be taken. so matter how people tear at you or what they do what God has for you is for you.

    its a lesson
  • Jeremiah on Genesis 37 - 10 years ago
in a way the story of joseph in ch 37 is similar to the story of our Lord JESUS. How he came to serve us and was rejected and crucified by the same people he came to serve. Israel, like GOD the Father, send his beloved son verse 3 with bread salvation to see the well being of his brethren. but they see him afar off and plot to kill him. they sell him to strangers for pieces of silver.they took his expensive coat of many colours and decided amongst themselves what to do with it. in the same way the devil did not know that the rules of the game had changed and thought that killing Jesus was the solution whereas in His death we were all served they sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites, who will eventually will land in his destiny in pharaoh 's palace where his brethren will one day come asking for food. the stone that was rejected
  • Joseph on Genesis 37 - 10 years ago
I got to understand from scriptural evidence that the situation in Joseph 's story is not a contradiction. The Ishmealites were a community of people who settled in different countries in their surroundings in Palestine. Midian, on the other hand, was a country. Those Ishmealites who bought Joseph were from Midian and therefore could be referred to as Ishmealites or Midianites simultaneously. It is almost like a Liberian who chooses to live in India. In some circumstances he could be referred to as a Liberian, and in another an Indian. I recommend that you please read Judges 8 22 28. Please give special attention to verses 22, 24, and 26.
  • Tim George on Genesis 37:13 - 10 years ago
And Israel said unto Joseph do not thy brothers feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, "Hear am I " Joseph submits to his father 's will to go to his brothers, who hated him, to see how they were feeding the flock. We in ministry are partners together in the gospel, and we should be helpers with our fellow brothers in Christ. We are not to be competitors, but helpers in the ministry, for we serve the Lord Jesus Christ. By this shall all men know that we are His disciples, by the love that we have one for the other. Jesus said a new commandment give I unto you, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Love in spite of the way others treat you, and the Lord will reward you.

I am confused vs 28 says "sold to Ishmeelites " while vs 36 says "Midianites sold him in Egypt ... ". So did the Ishmeelites sell Joseph to the Midianites who in turn sold him in Egypt?
  • Pam on Genesis 37 - 10 years ago
I have come to know that people who persecute us are people we know relative, friends closest friends, examples Jesus, people who knew Him closest disciples, Joseph his only brother indeed, indeed life can teach you lesson
  • Mary McFadden on Genesis 37:2 - 10 years ago
I thank Joseph s brethren was very Jealous Him
  • Honest on Genesis 37 - 11 years ago
God will not do anything to his people without reviewing to him. This dream was prophetic the brothers needed to hear, so when it came to pass they may understand. the dream also helped Joseph to know why he went through so much.
  • Corey turno on Genesis 37 - 11 years ago
This did not answer my Question why would jacob send joseph to his brothers after he heard the dream
  • Gerald kanjere on Genesis 37:3 - 11 years ago
Genesis is a book that explains and puts across God's mind towards creation and explains in detail, showing God's power in revelance

Do you think that God can heal us or bless us? May the lord bless you; and have safe day.
  • Glenda on Genesis 37 - 11 years ago
I believe it was God’s will for Joseph to share his dream with his brothers and family, and it was also God’s will for this whole thing to take place. If Joseph had not shared his dream his brothers would not have done what they did and God’s plan would not have taken place. I don’t think we have to worry about sharing our God given dreams with others. God is big enough to take care of us. After all it is God that is working out His plan on the earth. Thank you Lord Jesus!! Amen.
  • Lorral Weaver on Genesis 37 - 12 years ago
I believe the coat of many colors represents, many nations that will come from the tribe of Joseph, and his sons, and they transported Joseph and many other slaves by making them walk.
  • Jay on Genesis 37 - 12 years ago
What do you believe the coat of many colors represents?
  • Robert collier on Genesis 37:28 - 12 years ago
How was Joseph transported to Egypt?
  • AGHEDO LAURA on Genesis 37 - 12 years ago
Genesis 37:8 taught us to bridle our tongues to avoid dream killers killing our dreams permanently. We don't know the intent of heart of the fellow we are actually relaying our dreams, aspirations etc, to remember the heart of man is desperately wicked who can know it expect our Almighty God. So be careful because those you relay your dreams to actually know and understand the interpretations more than you do. Please be careful there are dream killers everywhere.
  • Jenelle on Genesis 37 - 12 years ago
If God takes you to "it"' God will see you through "it". Joseph did no wrong, and yet, he trusted God, never showed any signs of bitterness toward his brothers, and he waited on God to deliver him. What awesome faith! We should all strive to be more like Joseph.
