The reason why GOD was not please with Cain's offering was because Cain was doing it for gain. He wanted praise in return while Abel did it out of pure joy and just wanted to please God because of his love for the LORD. Abel did not want praises he just wanted to praise. Out of jealousy and anger Cain murdered his brother. When GOD asks Cain about Abel he already knows what Cain did.
  • Ren on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Sorry Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos. Seth was 912 when he died
  • Ren on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
    @Jeff No Adam lived 930yrs
  • William on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
To the 12 year old; you are doing the right thing. Please remember, the Bible will be confusing to those which really do not understand God's reasoning and plans. Also please remember that only the King James version is the true word of God which hasn't be change since it were printed in 1611. Other versions of the bibles has been changes to change the meaning of a version or the intended meaning
  • RayJay on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Unless the Bible later states otherwise, just keep it simple and stick to what scriptures say. At this point, many people start assuming so many things in the Bible that are not necessarily there. UNLESS BIBLE CLARIFIES LATER, DON'T ASSUME. be careful when listening to assumptions
  • Gen on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
I felt as if this chapter was very confusing. There are some people here who I have never heard of. I don't think this part is in the Bible I have at school. Yes, I am twelve, and every night I want to read at least one chapter of the Bible. It really makes me feel one with God.
  • BSP on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Verse 7~Jehovah God tried to reason with Cain before he committed the horrible act of murdering Abel. Cain ignored this warning and he followed his own wicked heart.

Hi Jeff; In Genesis 5 we can read exactly how long every one of the holy ancients lived, and also add up exactly the years till the flood; 1656. Now while it may cause some to stumble through unbelief, how anyone could live nearly a thousand years; remember what Jesus told Peter in John 21; If I will that he (John) tarry till I come, what is that to thee? You follow me! God is the Master of life!
  • Jeff on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
I think I messed up it was Seth that lived 800 years , Adam only 140 I think..
  • Jeff on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
I guess Adam lived 800 years old or so . They could have had a lot kids that weren't even mentioned. Thank you for your comments as well. God Bless You.. He has me.
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Jeff; You asked, "...why isn't Cain's genealogy in with Adams?" Because we are created to be the children of God; and Cain despised and rejected to be a son of God, and instead filled his heart with the devil; condemned of himself to wandering in the earth as a hater of the LORD, rejecting the Word of Christ our Saviour; and unrepentant for murdering his brother, waiting for his everlasting doom.
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Jeff, I really appreciate your friendliness, and the very worthy discussion of the Scriptures. Look at the next chapter, verse 4 "..and he begat sons and daughters:" How else would people have been born? I think so much confusion is allowed to enter among the Believers when they are drawn away from reality into a misguided notion that things spoken of in the Bible are necessarily mystical/cryptic.
  • Jeff on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Cains wife had to be his sister if their were no other people then. However it doesn't mention Adam and Eve having daughters.. Thank you for your comments..
  • Rich on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
not his best, no real effort on Cain part... Cain was is like Esau, another person in the Holy Scriptures who didn't care, and gave no effort too.
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
I've already commented at length about the false teaching regarding angels breeding with women: angels are spirits, and not flesh; and have no capacity to make a woman pregnant! The story in ch. 6 is about apostasy and the resulting complete rotting of the world. Judgment must begin at the house of God; and when the sons of God fall away back to the world, and the salt has lost its savor its over!
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
If you re-read carefully; Cain didn't go to an already existing city; but he built it! How the place became called the land of Nod (wandering) is really pretty easy to guess; in that Cain was made a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth...a wanderer! Its nothing that should trouble us, that brothers and sisters and cousins would marry in the world of the beginning; as they were the only ones there!
  • Jeff on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
ok 1st question Where did the people from the land of Nod come from ? Were they created when Adam and Eve or are they their offspring too? Back to Cain it says he gave God offerings also but they weren't good enough for God they must have been bad fruit or shall we say seconds.. The devil must have gotten in Cains head making him do evil things such as he does today..
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
The way of Cain is having a wicked mind of unbelief and despising the word of God. Cain knew the story first hand from Adam and Eve themselves, as did his younger brother Abel, exactly what had happened, that they should now have such a hard life expelled from the paradise and presence of God. Cain opposed the judgment of God upon the disobedience, and so too the Word of Christ coming to save us.
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Jeff; NO! Angels are spirits, NOT flesh and bones! being a child of God, or a child of the devil, is not by the flesh, but by the spirit and character of the man. Jesus contended with the disobedient Jews that although [He knew] that they were of the seed of Abraham, they were not his children, nor God's children by reason of what kind they were morally and spiritually; against faith and truth.
  • Jeff on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Does anyone else think it is possible for Cain to be the offspring of the devil , the serpent? Eve was beguiled by the serpent . That's why Cain was the tiller of the ground . And also is it possible that Cain and Able were twins. And that was the fruit they were not suppose to pick....???
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Cain, by willfully leaving the Word of God's Anointed out of the accounting of himself; in presenting the fruits of his labor and toil without acknowledging the real meaning for his being in that state; shows his contempt for the truth, and the supreme authority of God: for he scorned God's good words of mercy in the announcement of Christ coming to undo the works of the devil and save the world.
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Gene; 1 John 3:12 "Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous." Read again what is here written; "..Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD." Bringing an offering implies coming to give account of one's self; and that account must be centered in Christ's sacrifice.
  • Gene on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
There is nothing in the Bible to show why God did not accept Cain's offering, or that Cain rejected the truth.
Speaking of sacrifices. No one has ever explained any reason whatsoever for sacrifices. Neither Abraham's attempt to sacrifice his only son, because God ordered it done as a test, which he later withdrew
  • Gene on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
The Bible doesn't say that Cain murdered Abel, jut that they got into a fight and Cain killed him. Self-defense has always been a defense. One of you said that Cain married his sister. That is not true. Cain moved to the City of Nod, and married someone there.
  • Bruce on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Grace: Adam called his wife's name,Eve because she was the mother of all living. Genesis 3:20.
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Grace; Adam and Eve had many, many more children than just Cain, and Abel, and Seth: It would naturally have been one of Cain's sisters that he took for a wife. There were no other people created besides Adam and Eve, and their children; and it wouldn't have been considered wrong to take a sister or a half sister or first cousin, like it might be today and in our culture.
  • Grace on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
How does one explain the presence of other people in Genesis 4 e.g. who did Cain marry If Adam and Eve were the first people that God created?
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
Mr. Frye; God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship in Spirit and in Truth. The Mark of God on the foreheads of His Redeemed Elect is spiritual and therefore becomes apparent to men's view. Cain and Abel knew first hand from their parents Adam and Eve, exactly what had happened, and the Word of God that Christ would come because of it. Abel believed, and Cain was hateful and hostile!
  • Michael Frye on Genesis 4 - 6 years ago
I have read and read and re-read Genesis 4 many times, And I'm wondering if Cain really was The Devils son. I don't want to believe that but, how it states it seems like he actually was. And I'm struggling with this, It's even difficult for me to even consider this. But the words are their ( I will put Emity between your off spring and Hers ) ( and He shall Crush your head with his Heel ).
  • Bruce on Genesis 4 - 7 years ago
Bertski: Verse 3: eventually Cain brought an offering. 4: Able brought The Best, The First for an Offering. 7: The LORD told Cain if he done better he would be excepted.
