Yep, we should focus on the main lesson of the text and not on such things as skin color of people in a time where we cannot know. And even if we did know, your right, it is not significant to give much consideration.

The key thing is Jacob blessed them as his sons. There is no virtue or lesson to be learned concerning their skin color.

Exactly S. Spencer, what difference does it make to us what color her skin was. Being Egyptian was mentioned for us to know she was not an Israelites. God thought that was all that was necessary for us to know.

Asenath was a high-born, aristocratic Egyptian woman. She was the wife of Joseph and the mother of his sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. There are two Rabbinic approaches to Asenath: One holds that she was an ethnic Egyptian woman that converted to marry Joseph.

There was no mention of her being black. You can read more on Google.

Thanks .We have had a good example in my parents. Though they never earned above the poverty line, they never went in debt for anything except the house which they paid off in probably five years or so. I cos $16,000 dollars in 1956. They just hated to spend interest on anything. So they lived frugally. We have too, for most of our marriage. We are preparing for retirement for both of us (I am now retired a year earlier than I expected). We paid off our house about five years ago and then have been putting the money we were paying on our mortgage and the extra money to being the mortgage down to zero quickly into savings for the past five years. Facing retirement is a bit unnerving because we will make do with what we will receive on a monthly basis and hopefully keep our savings intact for a while. It is hard to know how things may change in our economy over the next 20 yrs. Even so, God has always carried us through in every circumstance, so we will live responsibility and simply. We have learned to be content in a simple lifestyle for these 42 years. I know it is different for everyone and it is harder for younger people to get established than in the past. Yet, we all can probably do with a lot less "stuff." Everyone is at a different place with regards to how they manage the "fruits of their labors" but I do suggest being prayerful in all things.

Thank you GiGi. That was a word in season for sure. So many Christians get trapped in consumerism hardly giving consideration that our bounty & blessings only come from the Lord & He expects that we use them wisely & carefully. Yet, I sometimes hear, 'I earned it, it's mine, I will do with it as I please'.

When we correctly handle our material blessings by meeting our essential needs & looking out for the needs of others & the ministry of the Gospel, we will witness the Lord's full consistent riches to us. The difficulty that arises & the question: is the Christian showing little faith in God by saving his spare cash for the future or that rainy day? I had an aunt who lived like that, though she never judged anyone for putting aside money. She wholly trusted the Lord for supplying her needs, whether food or clothing. She looked after a Christian camping/conference facility so accommodation was free, but she received no wages or stipend. If someone gave her a monetary gift, she might buy something she needed & the rest she would give away. Once, she really wanted a green handbag & of course having no money, she laid the matter before the Lord. In time, someone gifted her a bag, & guess what, it was green. And that's how she lived to the day of her decease.

But I believe it's prudent to put money away if at all possible - it may not be for one's own needs but for another that the Lord might bring to you. And of course, in our society, with its never-ending demands upon us for all manner of payments & taxes, it's quite different to those of Christ's day who lived very simply by subsistence endeavours. Indeed, we can "go to the ant" & learn ( Proverbs 6:6-8), not only to engage in wholesome work, but also to lay aside for the future. It's wise to live like that before the Lord - listening for His Direction on how to use what He's given to us & how to bless others in need. It's not just a one-way street. Thanks for raising this up, as seen in Joseph's life & wisdom.

Wow! From prison to second in rank of all of Egypt, which was the "superpower" of the area at that time. Joseph knew that his ability to interpret dreams was from God and could confidently interpret the Pharaoh's dream. Either the magicians could not interpret the dreams or were afraid to do so in case they were wrong. But God proved to be over and above all of the powers of the magicians. Pharaoh recognized that the Spirit of God was with Joseph. The Pharaoh probably noticed Joseph's godly character in addition to is ability to interpret dreams to have chosen Joseph to oversee the land of Egypt during the time of plenty and famine. Pharaoh released so much into the hands of Joseph. He must have had confidence both in Joseph and in Joseph's God. It does not say how much Pharaoh knew about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He did know that Joseph was a Hebrew and may have heard about how God blessed Joseph's forefathers abundantly as well as blessing Joseph the 13 years he was in Egypt despite unfavorable circumstances. Placing Joseph in charge of his kingdom showed a bit of faith on Pharaoh's part.

Joseph commanded his responsibilities with wisdom and good judgment. He was able to convince people to live on less than the abundance of their crop yields in order to store up much than what Egypt would use during the famine. There was enough for those tribes that came to Egypt for relief from starvation during the famine. Pharaoh ad chosen wisely in placing Joseph in charge.

How often we can overspend in times of plenty when we probably should live modestly in order to save up for future expenses or possible downturns in our ability to earn income. In Egypt it was a matter of daily sustenance that they needed to consume in moderation to supply for the future famine. In current times, consumerism is such a trap as we are constantly being marketed by advertisers and social influence. May we all take some time to prayerfully re-evaluate our own lifestyles.

Okay. In reference to the 'end times', we have Revelation 13:17: "And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." Also, in Revelation 14:9,10.

If you're unfamiliar with this chapter 13, you may want to read it from the beginning. This account was part of a greater vision given to the Apostle John concerning the last days, including the Great Tribulation (i.e. when the Anger of God is poured upon this world). John saw a beast rising up from the sea, having seven heads & ten horns. The beast is understood to be the coming Anti-Christ & the heads being the confederation of nations supporting him & an extension of his evil presence. As his name indicates, he will come proclaiming to be the Messiah, but his character & work are completely different & opposed to that of Jesus Christ. The Anti-Christ will demand he be worshipped & for those who refuse to do so & refuse to receive his mark, will not be able to trade. And this means the demise of those who stay true to Christ, being destroyed in the flesh but saved & glorified in the spirit.

And yes, we're certainly at the threshold of such events as we consider Israel & the countries that are opposed to its existence. There have always been problems in that region & at a time when the forces of evil violently come against Israel, there will come a 'saviour' to negotiate peace in the region, but one who will ultimately serve his own ends & control the governments of the world & the people. The Anti-Christ is Satan incarnate, but most, as they are now, are conditioned to believe lies & accept him as one sent from God.

The verse I'm searching for is in reference to the end times, which is exactly where I believe we are right now. Thank you for trying to help.

The only reference that I can think of, pertains to buying & selling on the Sabbath Day. Assuming that there was sufficient food & other items to be traded, on the Sabbath, Israel was required to desist from any trading (amongst many other things), so as to keep the Day of Rest holy unto the Lord. Nehemiah 10:31, speaks of this:

"And if the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt."

To Stanjett on Genesis 41 and your dream. Your comment is a year old in reference to your dream of winning 100 thousand dollars. Even so, I pray you did not follow through with giving your personal information to an entity that you could not prove. Sounds as though someone was attempting to scam you. We are to be wise in our walk with Jesus.

Like your comment for seven. Also I think the repetition of seven's conveys revelation of the brothers' evil intent. Twenty seven yrs. passed and they forgot their wickedness to Joseph because God gave him dreams with Spiritual signifiance. They focused only on doing evil to Joseph. No hint of repenting. God truly comforted Joseph through all his struggles and will do same for us.

All mighty GOD took Care of the Israelites, and the Egyptions. HE will give all who give their life to Jesus Christ a home in Heaven!

What I understand from Joseph story is that God chose him before he were born to be a leader, a blessings to maney,but in order to do so,he had to be tested.And he did remain faithful.

I dreamed a dream. I dreamed I won a lot of money. And the next day I got a letter in the mail. Which said I won 100k. All I had to do was call and verify my name, my address, age and my SS number. Only dreams from God comes true.

God gets all the glory.

I studied this chapter word by word and I was amazed at God's making of a man for the Master's use grooming Joseph from critical care unit ( my modern terminology) to a man used to save all of Egypt. I am amazed at the intelligence of God! The level of God's brilliance. He is amazing.

"And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace." The Lord Jesus Christ at the right hand of God the Father sees all the inhabitants of the earth, and knows all things, and works all things by His Spirit. It should not then be thought a strange thing that good and holy men who have proven true by His Spirit, should also be so wise and understanding.

Genesis 41 and Joseph's life is consolidated by Genesis1:2-3 before God created light, there was darkness. Even a Christian before God exalts you, there has to be tribulation to reveal whether the heart will still believe in difficult circumstances. Just like Abraham before God gave him a child was subjected to long-suffering and famine even when ISAAC came he was asked to offer him to prove faith

Note carefully how this Pharaoh reacts to the words of the man of God. This particular Pharaoh was a righteous man, and true enough to recognize good and sound words from God. He also evidently had no problem with God, with respect to his own position as king of Egypt; and was ready and able to act in faith appropriately, with respect to God's doings, and his own place as the ruler of his people.

The life of Joseph shows that humility and trust in God is the only way to success, also hard work, Joseph was all over Egypt, his position did not change anything

It is my belief that God always send a warning before destruction, however it is up to us as believers to see the signs and obey them. Genesis 41 is a powerful illustration of how one believe in the power of God even during times of sorrow and pain. Joseph had endured many hardships at an early age, however he never stop depending on the Lord. He knew he would deliver on time. This nourishment!!

Is this the first documented evidence of any human being having a dream or night mare?
Can this dream remanifest itself millennia into the future?
If the numbering of Chapter 41 is NOT a pure accident, then is there any possibility of determining when the dream may reoccur? Does the total number of 14 years give an indication? For example 41 - 14 = 27 (3 x 3 x 3) or perhaps the THIRD millennium?

Pharoah recognized that Joseph had the spirit of God on him and that it wasn't his own abilities. All the glory really belonged to God.
