Genesis Chapter 9 Discussion Page 10

  • Timothy Wayne George on Genesis 9 - 12 years ago
Dear Jean, Leviticus 18:10 tells you not to uncover your son's daughters nakedness, and it is as uncovering your own. This is something that God has commanded, and proper dress with modesty is very important to God. True if Noah had not become drunken, he would never have been uncovered. Wine is a mocker, and whoever drinks to get drunk is not wise. This however does not excuse what happened, but it is a lesson to all of us of the dangers of wine. God is holy, and he commands his people to be holy as he is.
  • Guignard Jean on Genesis 9:22 - 12 years ago
I'd like to know if it was prohibited by the law to see the nakedness of someone else. If is so, please send me a biblical reference.
  • Rufus Taiwo on Genesis 9 - 12 years ago
He that kill by sword, by sword shall the same be killed has been the rule laid down by God as at the time He did same Noal and family from the death of the flood. So physically and, or spiritually the law remains latent and active!! To this effect, humanbeing should be mindful of what they do, the way they do act, how they speak and so on, so as not to become a subject to death.

3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
4 But flesh with the life thereof, [which is] the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

What is the difference between every moving thing that liveth, and flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof?
  • Sparkkle on Genesis 9 - 12 years ago
And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

I agree with Miriam's query - Why was Cannan cursed?

And for the record - SLAVES are found in every race.
  • Riley on Genesis 9:5 - 12 years ago
I will avenge the blood of the murdered upon the murderer. When God requires the life of a man at the hand of him that took it away unjustly, he cannot render that, and therefore must render his own in lieu of it, which is the only way left of making restitution.

    what does it mean?
  • J.R. on Genesis 9 - 13 years ago
Also, remember Ham had Cush,Mizraim,Phut, and Canaan. So, just Canaan was cured to be a servant of servants, it says nothing about his other sons, for all we know they could have intermarried, and still have been darker skinned, and not slaves.
  • J.R. on Genesis 9 - 13 years ago
Well, everyone thinks that this pretains to black people. The fact is we really don't know. there have been many people that have been slaves, this account says nothing about skin color. Aslo, he curses Caanan.....Caanan is the youngest son of Ham. He had Cush, and Puthnam, and another son. So if that be the case, what skin color did all these have? Exactly, you dont know! And if it turns out they were darker skinned, they could have ended up being dark skinned asians!!
  • RALPH M. WATERS on Genesis 9 - 13 years ago
Man has dominon over all things, even the FISH - However, GOD destroys everything that has the BREATH of LIFE, leaving the FISH alone.

PEOPLE OF A DARK SKIN (CANAAN)- Whether we like it or not; Slavery was mentioned - And has been fulfilled.
  • Apollos on Genesis 9 - 14 years ago
Note that it was "the nakedness of his father." If we let the Bible interpret this for us, we read in Leviticus 18:8 that this means his mother! But, we know that the curse fell on Canaan because he was the one who had done the action, Ham did not restrain him or discipline him, though. We should be able to imagine what Canaan did that disrupted the family structure there. If not, we can see the types of things that Canaanites were known for in Lev. 18 (see verse 24 and 25).
It is poor exigesis that claims a curse upon people of a certain physical characteristic is valid, when it is obvious who was cursed.
  • Miriam on Genesis 9 - 14 years ago
what did Canaan do to Noah, doesn't it say Ham saw his father(Noah) naked? So when Noah woke up, did he punish Canaan for what Ham had done?
  • Monecque on Genesis 9 - 14 years ago
There was no race all men spoke the same language
That is until they built the tower of Babel. But if one want's to be technical all the son's of ham cover country in the meddle east and Africa.
  • Patricia agbinor on Genesis 9 - 14 years ago
Dear Randy, I felt exactly the way you feel about chapter 9 until I read chapter 10 and 11.
That is where you will find the answer to your question.
  • Randy motes on Genesis 9 - 14 years ago
