You can Google Noah's wife. Look at Wikipedia. Apparently her name is in other religious manuscripts that were not canonized into the Bible. If it's not in a genealogy listing, you may not see it.

Again, female names are not always recorded in Bible genealogy. She existed to be sure. She had 3 sons with Noah. She was recorded of the 8 persons on the ark.

    ******

Speaking on Noah drinking a wee too much wine; is he to be condemned by us for that?! He was in HIS bedroom. Why did his sons enter the bedroom after seeing he was nude? Two sons tried to cover his nakedness and 1 son broke out in announcing what state his father abode! Rude! They don't make lamps big enough for his head!

We give people a hand up instead of calling the whole town in for a look.

Greg is totally right and here is more proof

Leviticus 20:11 And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

...And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness:...

Looking at them naked? I do not think so...

This would easily make sense of this was the step mom of Ham.

This may or may not be true of step mom, it might actually have been his mother

Leviticus 20:18 And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people. (this shows you this is talking about intercourse as to time of the month for a woman)

Leviticus 18:6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.

Leviticus 18:7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

Leviticus 18:8 The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.

Leviticus 18:17 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.

I think Greg is wrong here. I think it was as simple as it reads when Ham barges in on a drunk and naked Noah and his other sons walk in respectfully backwards and cover him up. No mention of Mrs Noah so best not to add to scripture and paint a wrong picture. Virtually no people on earth and poor Noah still can't get a bit of privacy.
  • Bob - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
Don't over read scripture, Noah was drunk and alone in his tent. His boys walked backward and covered him up . The wife was nowhere around. In a world with virtually no people Noah still couldn't get some privacy. The wine can make you say things you may regret.
  • Bob Hilt - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
I am not claiming anything, just pointing out the silence on the Bible on who is the wife of Noah.

possibly this was Ham's stepmom is all. Of course it could be his mother, just the Bible is silent on the exact specifics is all.
  • Chris - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
That's an interesting interpretation Greg. I understand Lev 18:8 but how do you fit in Gen 9:23 to this event, again speaking about the father?
  • Greg - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
    Bob Hilt,

I am unaware of any more than one wife of Noah.

Scripture states that Noah and his "wife" ( Genesis 7:7, 13) went into the Ark.

Specifically 8 (Adamic) souls were saved upon the Ark ( 1 Peter 3:20).

That would be Noah, his wife, their 3 sons, and the three sons wives.

Is there any Scripture to back up what you are claiming?
  • Genealogy on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
Most daughters are not named in Genealogy unless they are of the bloodline of Jesus.

Some women are named because it ties to the Story of Jesus; or prophesy.
  • Bob Hilt - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
Greg, well written and explained. one thing more Ham could have done it with what could have been a step mother.

Yes the sin of Ham and Canaan. I always found it strange with all the begats in the bible that the mothers of Noah's kids are not mentioned.
  • Greg - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
    Bob,

What Ham did in his father's tent is fully explained and clarified by the laws given to Moses and written in the Book of Leviticus. The entire 18th chapter should be read for full understanding, but for emphasis; verse 8 will be highlighted below.

    ( Lev 18:8)

"The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness."

The act of seeing the nakedness of your father is, therefore, to have intercourse your father's wife. The transgression of Ham was the act of sleeping with Noah's wife. In this case, Noah's wife was also Ham's own mother.

So it is that when Noah was "uncovered within his tent ( Genesis 9:21), it was the wife of Noah who was actually violated, not Noah. Further documentation and clarification is also given concerning this type of transgression in the Book of Deuteronomy, where it is stated that; "Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife; because he uncovereth his father's skirt" ( Deuteronomy 27:20), also look at ( Deuteronomy 22:30).

As is stated in Genesis 9:18; "Ham is the father of Canaan." It is now plain to see that the transgression of Ham was the act of lying with his mother, and the result of that act was the birth of Canaan.

After 111 years and some, Noah needed a drink and probably enjoyed it a bit too much. He shouldn't have said that about his son and and its also a lesson in respecting peoples privacy and knock first instead of always barging in. You may just walk in on your naked dad which is something you can't unsee. Its important for us to think first before opening our mouths otherwise you may even curse your own children. God created all things by speaking and because we were made in His image and likeness our words are powerful too and have a lasting effect.
  • Mike Wassilyn SR on Genesis 9:20 - 4 years ago
I personally view this is noah was with his wife enjoying each other when ham walked in.

In Genesis 9:3 it is written that: "I have given them to you for food, just as I have given you grain and vegetables." But you must never eat any meat that still has the life blood in it. If a wild animal kills a human-being, that animal must die. I hope this answer helps you to better understand. God Bless!
  • Mishael on Predestination on Genesis 9:3 - 4 years ago
Doesn't something in your spirit kinda twist your gut when someone says people don't need the gospel to be preached because their name is in the Lambs book already because of pre-destination?

What if....(I love that game) heaven lost your reservation and your luggage?

Why did Jesus tell his disciples to go ye??

    Mark 6:15-20

Who told you about Jesus? That you are a sinner that would bust hell wide open if ya don't get saved?

The Holy Spirit doesn't do it the same way every time.

Proverbs 11:30> the fruit of the righteous is a Tree of Life; and he that wins souls is wise.
  • Chris - In Reply on Genesis 9:3 - 4 years ago
Killing an animal is not a sin, as long as it is killed for food & not for sport or for a trophy. Animals, along with plants have been given to us by God for food. See Gen 9:2, Ex 12; Jn 21:12,13; Acts 10:9-15 are some examples.
  • Mishael - In Reply on Genesis 9:3 - 4 years ago
God gave us animals to eat. Most societies make us get permits to hunt on state or federal lands. Find out the laws or ordinances in your area.

Sons of God (ANGELS) shout before the world began - Adam man came 6 days later.
Job 38:4 - Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Job 38:5 - Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

    Job 38:6 - Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

Job 38:7 - When the morning stars sang together, and all the SONS OF GOD sons of God shouted for joy?

How can the sons of God be men since they were shouting for joy when the earth was created?
Adam man did not come till 6 days AFTER the earth was made.

Adam was a Son of God since he created him -

I had a cousin that had six fingers, so I know it can happen.
  • Bob Hilt - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
So were all the SONS OF GOD of Genesis 6 the men who were ALL righteous

the DAUGHTERS OF MEN were all women who were ALL wicked and evil

So all the men were godly and the women were evil ?

Really can we believe this: all the men were godly and the women were evil

then the godly men and wicked women got married and believers and unbelievers had children who were GIANTS
so where are these giants today? Playing for the NBA?

2 Samuel 21:20 - And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.

see any unbelievers running around with 6 fingers?

    Son of God
"The plural, "sons of God," is used ( Gen. 6:2, 4) to denote the" pious descendants of Seth. In Job 1:6; 38:7 this name is applied to the angels.

Please confirm Stanjett with Scripture that He did I shared before the Scriptures that show you are in error but my Comment is not showing here now Sad that some don't want God'sTruth they want to believe in fables and heresay or what they think. They will continue to be deceived unless they ask for God's Wisdom and The Holy Spirit and believe they have received.

You are so right. Even the angels in heaven are the sons of God. For he created them.

sometimes when the bible says meat, it could be veggies or fruits which it was at first until he said they could eat meat but not the blood thereof. Sometimes meat mean food as in this chapter.
  • Betotx - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
Stanjett, Gen 9 is referring to Noah,This is after the Flood,Nothing to do with creation at this point.
  • Ruben Hartness - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 4 years ago
Stanjett, before the gift of meat, wasn't that gift given the same day-6th-we as man were created? We could eat vegetables or meat from the day of our creation, my understanding. We were never just vegetarians.--searching Gen 2:29,30,31.
